Revanell McVay Obituary

Revanell McVay

Revanell "Reva" (Dunn) McVay, 89, passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, at Heritage Nursing Center, where she had been a resident for two years.

She was born Jan. 10, 1934, in Belmont, West Virginia, to Lawrence Edward "Ed" and Lela (Ingram) Dunn. She married Richard Edward McVay on July 31, 1955. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage until his passing Oct. 23, 2009.

She and Richard were blessed with three children, Jeffrey (Sallyanne), Rebecca (Randy) Greeno, and Mary Jo; five grandchildren, Neil (Emily) Greeno, Morgan Huber, Ross Greeno, Caitlin (Jeremiah) Stanton-Rich, and Corey Anne McVay; and two great-grandsons, Oliver Huber and Jack Greeno.

Growing up, Reva was very active in school activities, especially choir and band. She attended high school in St. Marys, West Virginia, graduating in 1952. Reva enjoyed and maintained her school friendships throughout her life. She particularly enjoyed the homecoming festivities and class reunions that her class had, often traveling out of state to attend them. After graduation, she worked for Union Carbide in Belpre, Ohio.

Reva came to northwest Ohio when Richard began working for Ohio Farm Bureau, first locating in Forest before moving to Findlay in 1963. She was the credit coordinator at Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., from where she and Richard both retired. They attended Christ Church United Methodist, where Reva was a member for 60 years. She enjoyed the sewing circle and the women's groups there.

Masonic organizations were an integral part of their lives, especially after their children were older. Reva was a 50-year member of Eastern Star Chapter #31 in St. Marys, West Virginia, Findlay Rainbow advisory board, Ladies Oriental Shrine, Dendarah Court, Jesterettes, and several other Masonic groups. She was proud that they had participated in the annual Legion of Honor pilgrimage to Washington, D.C., for 20 years.

There were three things on the bucket list of Reva and Richard -- to own a property with woods and a stream, have a classic car, and travel the Alaska Highway. They were able to satisfy each item on that list.

Reva enjoyed reading, sewing, and learning to crochet, and was a prolific collector of Longaberger baskets. She played pinochle for many years with the Trump It 8 card club. Reva was known for her friendly demeanor and her signature white hair bun. She will be greatly missed.

They enjoyed traveling and always made sure there was a family vacation. They loved to travel and documented their trips through LOTS of pictures. Their adventures took them to England, Scotland, Australia, and most of the United States. Maintaining family relationships and friendships was very important to them and they often incorporated those visits into their travels far and wide.

Reva was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; son, Jeff; one infant sister; and sister, Betty Lee (Ralph) Mitchell.

Reva's celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, with Bishop Terry McBeath officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, and 10-11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Knollcrest Cemetery, east of Findlay.

Memorial contributions can be made to Down Syndrome Association of Greater Toledo.

Dear Becky and Mary Jo, and the extended family,

What an interesting woman! We are thankful that we were able to be part of her circle for awhile in Caring Hands. She always told such great stories. Some of them were even about her children and grandchildren!

She will be missed.

God bless you all as you go through the days ahead.

Becky, Mary Jo, and family--I just wanted to extend my deepest condolences on the loss of your mom. I can't remember a time in my life when she wasn't part of it and I grieve alongside you, and will be keeping you close in thought and prayer. I wish I could tell you in person, but unfortunately, will not be able to attend the visitation or funeral, so here's a virtual hug instead!
