Nancy Lee Hall
Nancy Lee Hall, 84, of Carey, passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2022, at Birchaven in Findlay.
Nancy was born July 17, 1938, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Howard and Valerie (Nye) Combine. Nancy attended grade school in Bexley, Ohio, and after her parents divorced, she and her sister, Linda, returned to Carey. Here, she graduated from Carey High School in 1957. Nancy then continued her education at Bowling Green State University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in 1961 and a Master's degree in 1963. While attending BGSU, Nancy belonged to Alpha Phi Sorority.
Nancy worked for two years as an elementary and secondary level teacher in Sylvania Elementary Schools and then relocated to the Carey Schools where she was a long-time guidance counselor. After being in education for 30 years, Nancy retired and continued to substitute teach. Nancy was a lifelong member of Ohio Education Association and National Education Association.
After moving back to Carey, Nancy reconnected with a family friend, James "Jim" Hall. They wed Dec. 21, 1968. Nancy was a wonderful mother to Jim's six children and treated them as her own. Together, Nancy and James celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on Dec. 21, 2022, at Birchaven with family members present.
Nancy always enjoyed volunteering within the Carey and surrounding communities. She could often be found helping with Board of Elections and The United Way. Nancy was also active with The Wyandot and Sandusky Mental Health Board, was a trustee for Wyandot Council on Aging, and member of Advisory Board in Mansfield for Area 5 Council on Aging. Nancy also delivered meals once a week for those home-bound and was selected Senior Citizen of the Year for Wyandot County.
Being a woman of faith, Nancy was a long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church, Carey, where she was on several committees and organized the 'Lunch Bunch'. She also belonged to the local Red Hat Society and the 'Page Turners' at the library.
Nancy enjoyed traveling with her family and taking trips and cruises with the Senior Center. She could often be found mushroom hunting with Jim and skiing both in Michigan and Ohio. Never being one to sit still, Nancy and Jim enjoyed wintering for 10 years in Florida, first at an RV Park on the Gulf, and two years at Dogwood Mobile Home Park in Bushnell, Florida. Nancy and also Jim enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Erie and in Canada. In Nancy's free time, she could be found with the 'Craft Ladies' at Upper Sandusky Senior Center or taking an arthritis class in the Fostoria YMCA pool.
Nancy enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren's activities and was a volunteer with the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She made sure to keep track of all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's birthdays and accomplishments. In younger years, she enjoyed bowling, tennis, swimming, and of course socializing! Nancy loved life and people.
Her happiest moments were being with other people, classmates, friends, fellow workers, and of course, family. She was always happy, cheerful, and positive.
Nancy will be missed by her husband, James of Carey; stepchildren, Kristine (Gary) Jones of Pennsylvania, James (Valerie) Hall Jr. of Ada, Jeffery (Deb) Hall of Carey, John (Autumn) Hall of Carey, and Mary (Bob Baker) Hall of Carey; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Stephen (Valerie) Smiley of Springboro, Ohio; first cousins, Cindy Blake and Jim Nye; and niece, Shannon Cathey of Columbus.
