Miriam Claypool Obituary

Miriam Joan (Kidd) Claypool

Miriam Joan (Kidd) Claypool, lovingly known as "Rocky," passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born November 23, 1937, in Jenera and spent much of her life in Findlay.

Miriam was the daughter of Irvin W. Kidd and Gladys M. (Shulaw) Kidd, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her brother, Gerald E. Kidd; and her son, Jeffrey Scott Waaland.

She is survived by her sister, June E. (Kidd) Augsburger of Pandora; her sons, Kirby Dean Waaland (married to April A. Wassermann) and Darren Quinn Waaland (partnered with Donald Palm), both of San Antonio, Texas; two stepgrandchildren, Jill Meeker (Ben) of Waterville and Zachary Wassermann (Katie) of Kalkaska, Michigan; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

A proud graduate of Liberty-Benton High School in Findlay, Class of 1956, Miriam was a member of the marching band where she played the trumpet. She later retired from Centrex, Inc. in Findlay. Miriam was an active member of Red Hat Society and served as a Junior Achievement mentor.

Known for her vibrant red hair and laugh that echoed the iconic "Woody Woodpecker," Miriam brought joy to those around her. Her nickname, "Rocky," stemmed from a character in Saturday afternoon serials at the local theater. She enjoyed visiting craft shows like Apple Butter Festival in Van Buren and attending the Hancock County Fair annually. She had a penchant for sharing or listening to off-color jokes that left everyone smiling.

A memorial service will be Findlay area later this spring to honor Miriam's life. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.

I was so fond of Rocky! She was a delightful member of the Landon Ridge Singers-a group I thoroughly enjoyed directing! Peace to you.
