John W. Hummell II

John W. Hummell II, 82, of Findlay, passed away at his residence Sunday, January 5, 2025. He was born September 22, 1942, in Findlay, the son of the late John W. and Mary (Gordon) Hummell. On December 17, 1961, he married Clista Jean (Gross) Hummell, who preceded him in death October 22, 2011.

Survivors include his son, John W. "Trey" Hummell III of Findlay; his daughters, Kelly (Dan) Schmehl of Arlington and Stacey Misamore of Van Wert; grandchildren, Kaleigh (Aaron) Pentz, Demra (James) Fletcher, Kenna Schmehl. Jon Schmehl, Jordan (Maryssa) Misamore, Ethan Misamore, Connor Misamore, Jennifer (Brian) Farmer, Preston Greeno and Meaghan Hummell; great-grandchildren, Addison, Rylee, Jamison, Ava, Liliane, Adley, Emery, Halle, Saylor and Stella; and his sister, Mary Prine, of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a stepfather, Edwin Milroy; his wife; a brother, Carl Hummell; and a sister, Audrey Hummell.

John was a supervisor at Centrex and a custodian at Whittier Elementary School, retiring in 2013. He served his country in the United Sates Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a life member of Findlay American Legion, DAV, AMVETS, and VFW Post. He enjoyed fishing at Lake Erie and time spent at his cottage in Port Clinton, watching the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State play football. Most of all, he enjoyed time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

A visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL Home, Findlay. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2025, with Pastor Dan Metzger officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay, where members of Hancock County Veterans Squad will accord military honors.
