James Nelms Obituary

James Curtis Nelms

James Curtis Nelms, 70, of Findlay, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

James was born Jan. 19, 1954, in Gadsden, Alabama, to Pastor Curtis Frank Nelms and Katie Virginia (Adams) Nelms.

In 1978, James met his future wife, Pam Bame, and they were married by James' father, Pastor Curtis Nelms, on Feb. 7, 1979.

James is survived by his brother, David (Jill) Nelms of Mount Pleasant, Tennessee; sisters, Ruth Nelms of Gadsden, Alabama, and Ann Head of Gadsden, Alabama; stepdaughter, Kimberly Bame of Findlay; stepson, Jayson Bame of Columbus Grove; four stepgrandchildren, Jaesun Bame of Findlay, McKenzie Bame of of Grove City, Danielle Bame of Columbus, and Keegan Bame of Columbus Grove; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; two grandnephews, Jalan Birchfield and Micah Birchfield, both of Lawton, Oklahoma; niece, Katrina (Anthony) Birchfield of Lawton, Oklahoma; and nephew, Brian Nelms of Reese City, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Pastor Royce Head.

James served in U.S. Navy for two years, receiving an honorable discharge. He truly enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting with his best buddy, Gary Thomas. James had a huge heart. He truly loved his family and friends. There was nothing that he wouldn't do for anyone in need or otherwise and never expected anything in return. He was a wonderful and loving stepfather, along with being a great stepgrandfather and stepgreat-grandfather. James most definitely was an honest and loving husband to Pam for 45 years.

James worked for Consolidated Biscuit Co. in McComb, which later became Hearthside Food Solutions for 38 years. He was a very loyal employee.

James' celebration of life memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2024, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, 205 West Sandusky Street, Findlay, Ohio, 45840, with Pastor Dutch VanderVlucht officiating. Full military honors will be presented by Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.
