Howard Wymer Obituary

Howard Wymer

Howard Wymer, 90, of Findlay, died at 1 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green. He was born June 8, 1934, in North Baltimore to the late Clyde, Sr. and Opal (Coldwell) Wymer. He married Doris Schultz Feb. 13, 1955, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Oak Harbor and she survives.

Howard is survived by his son, Douglas (Kim) Wymer of Findlay; daughter, Debra Searls of Findlay; daughter-in-law, Janie Wymer; brother, Larry (Tonia) Wymer; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Barbara) Schultz; grandchildren, Suzanne (Jeff) Estep, Jennifer (Rob) Connock, Jessica Wymer, Jon (Jessie) Wymer, Arthur Wymer, Samantha Searls and Courtney Rinesmith; and six great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Denny Wymer; brothers, James, Donald, Garry, Clyde and Robert.

Howard was a 1953 graduate of North Baltimore High School. He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Findlay, where he was involved in many of the church organizations, working on fundraisers for youth groups, serving on various church commissions and founding committee member of the church Sunday dinners.

Howard had a lengthy career in food service, first owning Howard's Grill in North Baltimore. He then worked as a cook with the BGSU Student Union. In 1960, he was the Chef for the Marathon Oil Cafeteria. In 1980, he became the director of food services for Findlay City Schools until his retirement in 1997. He then worked for a couple of years at Sears. In 2000, he began working for Coldren-Crates Funeral Homes, where he worked for many years.

Howard was a former Boy Scout Webelos Pack Leader, member of the Trojan Club, founding committee member for the Findlay Music Boosters, Millstream Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge #561 in North Baltimore, American School Food Service Association, Past President of the Ohio School Food Service Association, and Chairman of the OSFA.

Howard never met a stranger and had a vast empire of family, friends, and co-workers, and many knew him as the "hugger." He loved to travel with his family, covering about three-quarters of the United States, cruising the Caribbean, Alaska, and the Northeast Coast. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, where visitation will be 12-3 p.m. prior to the service Sunday.

Mrs. Wymer, Doug, and the rest of the Wymer Family. Our sincerest condolences. I'll always remember you dad for his infamous, "what's that on your shirt" as he pointed to your chest and as you looked down, he'd gently raise his hand and "smack" you in the face! I always fell for it. He was a great supporter of FHS football and other community organizations. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace.
