Harley R. Steiner

Harley R. Steiner went home to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, at approximately 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022.

He was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Bluffton, Ohio, to the late Philip and Elizabeth (Althaus) Steiner. He married Donna Wingate on July 30, 1948, and she preceded him in death Dec. 27, 2014.

Harley was a graduate of Bluffton High School in the class of 1945 and was their last surviving member. He attended Bluffton College. He worked at numerous jobs before he went to work at Westinghouse, Small Motors Division, in Upper Sandusky as an industrial methods engineer. He spent over 30 years at Westinghouse, which near the end of his career became A. O. Smith.

Harley was very much loved by his family and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time on his computer and handing out printouts of interesting and humorous stories to share with his family.

Survivors include four sons, David (Kathleen) Steiner, Daniel (Barb) Steiner, Michael (Sue) Steiner, all of Bluffton, and Ronald (Julie) Steiner of Lima; 11 grandchildren, Richard (Julie) Steiner, Lori (Steve) Flick, Sara (Peter) Badertscher, Dr. Christian (Lydia) Steiner, Philip (Mindy) Steiner, Rebekah (Ben) Gambrell, Kathryn (Ryan) Kruse, Anna (Chad) Burkholder, Jessica (Casey) Geren, Joel (Krista) Steiner, and Joshua (Heidi) Steiner; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Harley was preceded in death by his brothers, Job "Carold," John "Vernon," and Garland Steiner; twin sisters, Maeanna Quenzer and Maedonna McNeal; and one great-grandchild, Josiah Steiner.

Harley was a member of Ebenezer Mennonite Church since 1971 and regularly attended there until his health prevented that. He then attended services online.

Harley's funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2022, at Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton. Dick Potter will officiate. Burial will be at Ebenezer Mennonite Cemetery following the service.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022, at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton, and 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Maple Crest for their excellent and compassionate care of Harley.
