Erna Douglas Obituary
Erna Claire Douglas, 88, of Dunkirk, passed away Friday, June 16, 2023, at Blanchard Valley Hospital.
She was born Dec. 7, 1934, in Forest, to Carl C. and Juanita Mae (Stanley) Simpson. She married Robert L. Douglas on Dec. 10, 1955, and he survives.
Erna is also survived by her children, Dennis C. (Donna C.) Douglas of Clearwater, Florida, and Phyllis (Brian) Spencer of Dunkirk; grandchildren, Terrah, Joshua, Brittany, Matthew, Andrew, Austin, and Stephen; great-grandchildren, Bret, Marcia, Valentina, Noah, Miley, Kayden, Zoey, Ethan, Carson, Brooklynn, Makenzie, Hayden, Peyton, Lillian, and Ashtyn; and sister, Danna S. (Don F., deceased) Dennis.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Vilma Wells; and daughter, Roberta C. Poe.
She was a 1952 graduate of Forest High School and worked as a secretary for Ohio Oil Company for 10 years. She was an accomplished pianist and organist who played for several churches, weddings, funerals, and other events. She was currently playing for Grace United Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting and sewing, especially for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob and Erna enjoyed traveling and cruises.
Erna's funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2023, at CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Arlington, with Pastor Joe Oman officiating. Burial will follow at Dunkirk Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2023, and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to Grace United Methodist Church, Dunkirk, in her memory.
