Daniel Waisanen Obituary
Daniel Wayne "Dan" Waisanen, 76, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, in Columbus after spending much of his life in McComb.
He was born in 1948 in Ishpeming, Michigan, to Aune (Koski) Waisanen and Arne Maki and was proud to be a "Yooper." After graduating high school, he served his country in U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and used his GI Bill benefits to earn an Associates degree at Lansing Community College.
Dan spent most of his career as the Bus Garage Supervisor at McComb Local Schools and was a gifted mechanic, bus driver, and friend to all at McComb Schools. His kids enjoyed the honor of always being the first ones to know when school was canceled for snow.
Dan is survived by his brothers, Paul Maki, Jack Waisanen, and Carl Waisanen; four kids, Holly Waisanen-Hatipoglu, Katie Kopf, Adam Waisanen, and Eric Waisanen; four grandkids, Evan, Noah, Julia, and Otto; and former wife, Billie Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Marie, Mavis, and Chrissy.
He will be laid to rest at a later time in Bakkala Cemetery in the Upper Peninsula.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to charity of your choice.

Danny was an incredible brother-in-law and uncle to my children. We spent nearly every Christmas and Thanksgiving together and my kids have fond memories of Uncle Danny showing up with cases of pop to contribute to the family meal. He will be remembered in our family as a hardworking, gentle soul.

We will be having a Celebration of Life for dad at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in McComb, Ohio on Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 2-4 pm. This will be an informal get together and you are welcome to join.

Dan was a quiet positive man. I enjoyed working with him. He was a very important person to me that first week of school making sure all my first graders made it on the right bus. I never remember seeing him without a smile on his face. My prayers for his family during this time.

I remember Dan from our church, St. John´s Lutheran Church here in McComb. He was always a quiet man and willing to do what ever he could for the church. I remember he always cut the grass for the church. He was a happy man and I missed him when he had to move. Rest in Peace Dan, I know you´re with God.
