Winifred I. Vansky

Winifred I. Vansky, 100, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22 at

Willow Ridge in Bluffton.

Winifred was born on Dec. 26, 1923 in Kemp, Ohio, to Harold and Ollie Ramga.

Winifred spoke fondly of being a "Kemp Kid". After graduating from Shawnee High School, she entered the workforce, being employed by Nu Maude Hosiery, the cigar factory, and finally Westinghouse. In 1949, she and Silas D. (Bud) Vansky married. Together they raised their family in Kenton. Winifred took on the roles of homemaker and mother. In retirement, Winifred and Bud relocated to Fort Myers Florida, and later Tavares, Florida. There they enjoyed many mornings on the golf course. Winifred had four holes-in-one during her golfing years. After Bud's passing, Winifred returned to Lima. In addition to golf, she also enjoyed visiting casinos, dining out, playing cards, watching game shows, reading, listening to country and gospel music, and spending time with her family. For many years, she hosted a Christmas gathering at her condo for her entire extended family, a true labor of love.

Surviving members of Winifred's family include her children, Mike (Ann) VanSky, Lisa (Guy) Lehky, Jeanette (Raymond) Karcher, Terry (Pam) VanSky; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Maurice Ramga; and sister, Lucyanne Claflin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; sisters, Alberta Shaw and Viola Herr; and infant sister, Vivian Lou.

In honoring Winifred's wishes, there will be no services following her cremation. Her family will have a private committal of her ashes at a later date.
