Wava Kirtland Obituary
Wava M. Kirtland, 99, of Findlay, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Heritage Nursing Home.
She was born March 27, 1924, in Bluffton, to Dwight and Clarabelle (Harris) Stotts. She married the love of her life, Norman E. Kirtland, on May 28, 1945, and he preceded her in death April 20, 2000.
Wava is survived by a daughter, Debra (Kirtland) Schlachter of Findlay; estranged son, Kenneth Kirtland of Findlay; five grandchildren, Joseph, Jesse, and Kelley Schlachter, Jennifer (Rob) Kirtland-Frankart, and Andy Kirtland; and five great-grandchildren, Ava, Alexina, Fiona, Zachary, and Ashley.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; beloved son-in-law, David "Packy" Schlacter; and two very special cousins, Lois Clay of Traverse City and Treva Crawford of Bluffton.
Wava was a 1942 graduate of Bluffton High School. She was a homemaker and worked as a switch board operator at Ohio Bell Telephone Company for many years.
Wava and Norm enjoyed fishing at Lake Erie and growing and canning their prized tomatoes.
It was Wava's desire to be cremated. A graveside memorial service be 11 a.m. Monday, July 10, 2023, at Benton Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Benjamin Lowell officiating.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt and sincere "Thank You" to the staff at the Heritage for their special care that they provided Wava over the past eight years.
Memorials may be made to Heritage Nursing Home, 2820 Greenacre Drive, Findlay, Ohio, 45840.

My family will always treasure the memories of Wava and Molly stopping by for their walks. My oldest son and nephew also plowed her driveway in the winter when they were still living at home. Thank you, Deb, for keeping us updated on how your mom was doing through your Christmas cards. May your mom's memories give you joy and peace as you mourn her passing.

Too many memories to write down. I remember Wava driving me in their convertible with the shift on the steering column. Can't remember what the make and model was, but loved the fin fenders! No idea where we went, but it was fun riding in that car with her! Such fun times! I always remember Norm calling her "Brat" when she got in trouble with him. It was so cute, but maybe not so much for them. All the Fridays at their house on Midland in the bar with music and Rolling Rock beer. Many New Years Eve times with my Mom & Pop, Dick & Marge Green at their house or ours. Both Norm and Wava are in my heart always. They are finally together again! I will miss her as much as Norm! The entire family has my deepest heartfelt sympathy! Will be at the cemetery to see everyone!
