Sheryl Powell Obituary

Sheryl Powell

Sheryl J. Powell, 75, went to Heaven to be with her personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded by her family Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green.

Sheryl was born July 21, 1948, in Findlay, to Robert and Florence (Kagy) Briggs.

Sheryl is survived by her children, Cynthia (Mark) Bartolomeo of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Marcus (Leslie) Powell of Findlay; grandchildren, Zoe, Landon, Ben, Aiden, and Max, all of Findlay; and brother, Dale (Sue) Briggs of Findlay.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Nicole E. Powell.

Sheryl graduated from Findlay High School in 1966 and married Steven E. Powell that same year. They later divorced in 1988.

Sheryl worked as a civil servant for Hancock County Courts and for City of Findlay, where she retired in 2007.

After retirement, you could find Sheryl quilting at any one of the four quilting guilds she was a member of or reading a good book. She loved playing cards at 50 North with her friends and traveling to Amish Country on family and quilting trips. Good memories were made by everyone!

Sheryl volunteered for many years, highlighting her baking and quilting skills, for Blanchard Valley Center's Auxiliary Board raising money to benefit Blanchard Valley School.

Her family would like to give a special acknowledgment to her best friends, Earlene and Chad Schock of Tiffin. Many memories were made through their friendship of 35 years!

Sheryl's greatest love was being a mom and grandmother. "GiGi" was known for her famous mashed potatoes, sugar cookies, and gifting custom quilts and clothes!

She attended College First Church of God and later in life, Cedar Creek Church.

Sheryl fought an amazing fight against cancer, diagnosed in 2019... and the cancer did not win! The most challenging part of her personal battle was also assisting her special needs daughter, Nicole, in fighting her cancer at the same time. It was truly a mother's love to put her child first.

As her family, we would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses from Cleveland Clinic and Blanchard Valley Health System, specifically Dr. Thomas and his staff. They are amazing people doing very difficult work. We would also like to thank the Bridge Hospice staff at Wood County Care Center for their work. Again, amazing people doing extremely difficult work.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Cancer Care Services in Findlay, Armes Family Cancer Care Center in Findlay, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Our family finds comfort in knowing Mom is in Heaven and with Nicole again!

Sheryl's funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2024, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Pastor Thom Redmond will lead the funeral. Visitation will be 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Dale: Sorry to read about Sheryl. I saw you both in 2020 at another family member funeral. We have fond memories of all of us spending time together.
My sincere condolences. She is in good hands.

So sorry to hear of her passing but she now walks with Nicole. Have been friends since our "brownie scout" days.
You will be missed
