Samuel Ellis

Samuel Ellis, 96, of Findlay, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Hospice of Central Ohio, Newark. He was born in Ada March 30, 1928, to the late Samuel and Josephine "Josie" Ellis. Sam married Welthea "Peg" Decker on August 3, 1952. She preceded him in death October 5, 2007. Sam married Betty Jean Johns on December, 13, 2008, and she preceded him in death April 29, 2024.

Samuel is survived by his children, Christina (Mark) Rehl, Christopher (Amber) Johns, and Tammy (Michael) Stone; grandchildren, Kathleen (Matt) Harkless, Angela M. Brown, Brad (Misty) Rehl, Travis (Andrea) Rehl, Maylia Stone, and Joshua Stone; ten great-grandchildren; Aurora Jamiel, Hayden Cox, Samuel Jamiel, Colin Harkless, Zophia Rehl, Lillianna Brown Kirkpatrick, Chase Rehl, Arianna Brown, Isaac Rehl, and Thomas Brown; and many nieces, and nephews.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers and sisters; and both wives.

Sam graduated from Mt. Blanchard High School and served in the Army during the Korean War. When he returned, he married and attended barber college. Sam worked as a barber for a number of years before he went to work at Whirlpool. He retired from Whirlpool in April 1993.

Sam was an avid fisherman and spent many happy times at Lake Erie and Findlay Fishing Club. Sam also enjoyed playing cards. He played Bridge at 50 North with his many friends. Once he moved to Newark with his daughter, Christina, they played Euchre at Licking County Aging Program with his many new friends.

Visitation for Samuel will be from 11 a.m. until time of his memorial service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, 205 W. Sandusky St., Findlay, Ohio, 45840, with Michael Stone officiating. Military graveside services will follow with members of Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad according military honors at Bechtel Cemetery, Van Buren.

In lieu of flowers, Samuel request's that donations in his memory be shared with Hospice of Central Ohio or Teddy's Rescue.

What a wonderful man. I will never forget all the good times from fishing with Sam and playing cards with both Sam and Peg we worked together for about 10 years before he retired. I was so happy to get to meet Betty prayers go out to all of you. He will definitely be missed

To Sam's family.my deepest condolences to on the loss of your love one. I worked with Sam at Whirlpool and he was one of the greatest guys to know there.
