Roger Snyder Obituary

Roger A. Snyder

Roger A. Snyder, 71, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at The Meadows of Ottawa. Roger was born October 18, 1953, in Fremont to the late Carl "Buck" and Agnes (Fuhrman) Snyder. He was a 1971 graduate of Lakota High School, a 1975 graduate of Heidelberg College, and received a master's degree from the University of Dayton. On June 25, 1977, he married Erika Boeddinghaus and she survives in Ottawa.

Also surviving are three sons and one daughter, Kevin (Jenn) Snyder of Ottawa, Kent (Kari) Snyder of Louisville, Ohio, Kyle (Gini) Snyder of Austintown, and Kasey (Ross) Gerschutz of Miller City. He had 11 grandchildren, Kate, Cora and Max Snyder, Graysen and Jordyn Snyder, Colton, Tuck and Hadley Snyder, and Logan, Easton and Emmett Gerschutz. He is also survived by a brother, Rick (Cheryl) Snyder of Northwood; a sister-in-law, Karla (John) Umland of Quaker Hill, Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.

Roger was a high school science teacher for 35 years. He taught science and coached football for three years in Bucyrus, and the remaining 32 years of his teaching/coaching career were spent at Ottawa-Glandorf High School. Roger touched many lives. Besides coaching football, he coached baseball at OG, was a Junior class co-advisor, and was a National Honor Society advisor. If something needed to be done, you could count on him!

Roger was raised on a family farm near Risingsun in Seneca County, where he learned the value of hard work. You could take the boy out of the farm, but you couldn't take the farm out of the boy. He continued to farm part-time until the present. After retiring from teaching in 2011, he embarked on a new career as a crop insurance adjuster for eight years. He truly enjoyed meeting and working with farmers in NW, West Central Ohio, NE Indiana, and Southern Michigan.

Roger resigned from his coaching position at the end of the 2002 football season. He then signed on in 2003 to broadcast the Titan football games on the radio as the color commentator. For 22 years, he stayed involved in a game he loved. Friday nights will not be the same without him.

Roger was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa where he served on various committees. Roger served his community as an Ottawa Shade Tree Committee member and an active member of OG Jaycees for many years. He also served one the County-Line Co-Op board of directors.

Besides being a family man, he loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking.

Roger's family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the teams of doctors, nurses, and PCAs at the James Wexner Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, for his excellent care. Although his stay was brief, thank you to the staffs of The Meadows of Ottawa and Putnam County HomeCare and Hospice for their kindness and compassion.

If you are inspired to make a donation in memory of Roger, kindly consider the OG Football Stadium Renovation Project c/o OGHS, 630 Glendale Ave., Ottawa, OH 45875, Challenge Champions, 111913 Rd 6, Ottawa, OH 45875, or a favorite charity of your choice.

Memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 137 N. Pratt St., Ottawa, with Pastor Marcella Ciccotelli officiating. Burial will be at a later date. It was Roger's wish that all his family and friends gather together to reminisce and remember him. Celebration of Life will be from 12-4 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Leipsic Fishing and Hunting Association, 10605 Rd H, Ottawa.
