Phyllis Hoenicke Obituary

Phyllis Ann Hoenicke

Phyllis Ann (Sharninghouse) Hoenicke of Taylor, Michigan, formerly of McComb, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 11:46 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

She was born at Miller McComb Hospital, McComb, August 15, 1942. Her grandfather, Merl Stout, who was city clerk at the time, signed her birth certificate. She was the daughter of Wayne and Loretta (Stout) Sharninghouse. Survivors include sons, Steven (Brenda), Bruce (Denise) and William Hoenicke; stepsons, Brian and Gil (Toni) Hoenicke; grandchildren, Renee, Noelle, Lily and William II; a brother, David Sharninghouse; a sister, Patricia (Dennis) Newell; nieces, Lori (Sharninghouse) McDaniel and Dawn (Tatham) Brandeberry; and nephews, John Sharninghouse and Mike Tatham.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her grandparents, Merl and Sylvia Stout and William and Orpha Sharninghouse; ex-husband, Wayne Hoenicke; nephew, Chris Tatham; and sister-in-law, Linda Sharninghouse.

Phyllis attended Otterbein College. She worked at Bungalow Restaurant, Big Boy, Hancock County Welfare Dept., St Michael's School (teacher), McComb School (sub-teacher), Taylor, Michigan schools (sub-teacher), City of Taylor (30 years – water dept and clerk's office – elections), and organist at Transfiguration Lutheran (25 years).

She liked to travel and went to Italy, France, Germany, China, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Alaska, and Jamaica.

She and her sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren, rented houses and went to Upper Michigan, Ohio Caverns, Lake Michigan, Niagara Falls, Smoky Mountains, and Mt. Rushmore.

Memorial services will be at St John's Lutheran, McComb. Donations in lieu of flowers can be directed to St John's Lutheran.
