Paul C. "Sonny" Brickman
Paul C. "Sonny" Brickman Sr., of McComb, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Monday, Feb. 26, 2024.
He was born April 1, 1943, to Paul T. and Bernice M. (Roy) Brickman. He married Phyllis E. (Benfer) Brickman on Jan. 27, 1968, and she preceded him in death after 53 years of marriage.
Sonny attended McComb Local School where he was active in music, including band and alumni band, as well as singing with family in local churches. Sonny was a member of Upper Room Church of God for 36 years.
Sonny was one of the best bass players around. He was also an accomplished trumpet player. He was able to play trumpet, bass, and sing at the same time. His music career spanned decades. He taught himself bass as a teenager. He began with the Chex who he played with through the late 50's. From the Chex, he went on to play with other rock and roll groups including the Bellaires, Jimmy Paul and the Fascinating Upsets, Johnny and the Hurricanes, and Johnny and the Thunderbirds. As a member of these groups, he had the opportunity to share the stage with Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Del Shannon, The Everly Brothers, and Conway Twitty before he gave his life to the Lord. When Sonny became a Christian, he started Bread of Life and later formed God's People. He was also a member of Zoe and Sons of Thunder. There were so many bands that Sonny belonged to and so many people on and off the stage that we apologize if any were overlooked. Just remember the only thing he loved as much as his his wife, kids, family, and music was his HAIR. P.S., But Jesus was always No. 1.
Sonny is survived by his daughter, Jeanne M. (Richard) Snodgrass (Brandy, Sonny, and Kat), Paul C. (Kristen) Brickman (Taylor, Tyler, Tiara, and Taryn), Luke C. (Charlotte) Brickman (Koty, Karissa, Coraletha, and Colton); sister, Jan E. Baer of
San Diego, California, and McComb; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Connie J. Thomas; and brother-in-law, Bruce M. Thomas.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Bridge Hospice for their caring support and to Char Brickman who cared for Sonny with all the love, compassion, and caring possible.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2024, until the time of Sonny's celebration of life service at 3 p.m. at Upper Room Church of God, 520 W. Bigelow Ave., Findlay.
In lieu of flowers, contributions maybe made to Bridge Hospice or Upper Room Church of God.
