Michael Gerschutz

Michael Gerschutz, 58, of Findlay, died Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay, surrounded by his family. He was born in Findlay, March 25, 1967, to David and the late Phyllis Gerschutz. Mike's life found its true purpose at the age of sixteen when he met Mellissa Mathers. She was the girl who swept him off his feet, and three years later, he married his beautiful bride. Michael and Mellissa spent 40 incredible years building a partnership and a romance that only grew deeper with time. To Mike, Missy was his everything, and the devotion he showed her served as the foundation for their entire family.

Michael graduated from Pandora Gilboa High School in 1985. He dedicated his career to Whirlpool, serving as a Quality Analyst for 26 years until his retirement in 2020.

While he was a pillar of strength for his family, he held a special and sacred place as his grandchildren's favorite human. Grandpa Mike was a title he wore with more pride than any professional milestone. Even as he battled the challenges of Alzheimer's and Dementia, the core of who Mike was never wavered. He remained a man defined by his role as a legendary grandfather, father, and husband whose love for his family remained the one thing the fog of illness could never touch. His legacy lives on in the family that was his greatest joy and in the 40-year love story that will forever be the gold standard for those he left behind.

Mike's legacy of love is carried on by his wife, Mellissa; his daughter, Brandy (James) Sterling of Findlay; and his son, Dustan Gerschutz of Findlay. He was the world's proudest grandfather to Cora and Aidric Sterling. He is also survived by his father, David Gerschutz; his father-in-law, William Mathers; his siblings, Dr. Greg (Clara) Gerschutz, Jon Gerschutz, and Teresa (Matt) Herman; and his sister-in-law, Verne (Vaughn) Katterheinrich, along with many dearly loved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jayce Sterling; his mother, Phyllis Gerschutz; his mother-in-law, Roiene Mathers; his stepmother-in-law, Nancy Zupo; and his brother-in-law, William Mathers Jr.

A memorial service will be at CedarCreek Church in Findlay, Friday, February 6, 2026. Visiting hours will begin at noon with memorial service at 1 p.m.

Memorial contribu-tions may be made in Mike's name to Alzheimer's Association to support research and care for those battling the disease he fought so bravely.
