Maybelle (Tate) McPherson

Maybelle (Tate) McPherson, 85, of Kenton, passed away at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Marion General Hospital.

She was born Feb. 7, 1938, in Kenton, to the late Oscar and Harriet (Jackson) Worthington. She was first married to Lawrence D. Tate and he preceded her in death. She then married James L. McPherson and he also preceded her in death.

Maybelle is survived by her children, the Rev. Tina A. Elliott of Marion, Thomas A. (Kimberly) Tate of Findlay, Serena (Lee) Smith of Findlay, and Sawie Nebo of Minnesota; sister, Martha Woodley of Lima; brother, Curtis (Helen) Worthington of Kenton; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Timothy A. Tate; brothers, Orville, Oscar, William, and Vincent Worthington; and sisters, Jeanette Woodley and Rowena Worthington.

Maybelle was a 1957 graduate of Kenton High School. She was a housewife and babysat for many of the neighborhood children where she touched many of their lives. In 1975, she began working for housekeeping for Marathon Oil, Basol Corporation, and First Presbyterian Church in Findlay. Maybelle was a member of Mason Chapel AME, Findlay, and Payne Chapel AME, Kenton, where she sang in the church choirs. She was also Missionary President of the Missionary Society.

Maybelle's funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at St. John's Evangelical Church, 211 E. Carrol St., Kenton, with the Rev. Tina A. Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery.
