Lois Deleruyelle Obituary

Lois M. Deleruyelle

Lois May (Schroeder) Deleruyelle, 87, of Ottawa, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at The Meadows of Ottawa with her husband of 54 years by her side. Lois was born in 1937 in Gibsonburg to Erich and Edna (Nehls) Schroeder. On June 4, 1970, she married Ralph "Marty" Deleruyelle.

Lois is survived by her husband, Marty; her daughter, Michelle Deleruyelle; her son, Brad (Melinda) Deleruyelle; four grandchildren, Taylor, Zachary, Hailey, and Brady; a sister, Sharon Swain of Arizona; numerous nieces and nephews; a depressed Chiweenie dog, and one disconsolate talking parrot.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Erich and Edna (Nehls) Schroeder; sister, Lucille (Schroeder) Hathaway; and brothers, Harold (Rose Marie) and Dwight Schroeder.

Lois initially graduated as a nurse from Flower Hospital in Toledo. She continued her education throughout her life, culminating in a doctorate degree. She considered the education of generations of nurses her life's work, and always took pride in doing all she could to set her students up for success. Her last professional position was as Dean of Nursing at Rhodes State College – Lima. Dr. D's legacy is the thousands of nurses – including her own daughter, Michelle and D-I-L, Melinda - who continues giving excellent and compassionate care even today.

Lois was a member of First Lutheran Church of Leipsic. She never wavered in her faith, always encouraging those around her to believe and pray. She always had an affinity and love for tending and preserving her gardens and her fruit trees. Lois loved creating with her hands, she was an accomplished seamstress, from sewing her own wedding dress to the hundreds of rips and seams over the years. She was an excellent cook and baker; known as Grandma Lois whose cookie jar was never empty. But most of all, she loved caring for her family, who meant everything to her.

Her funeral service will be Saturday, January 11, 2025; the time is yet to be determined at First Lutheran Church, Leipsic. A visitation will be at the church prior to the service Saturday, January 11, 2025. Arrangements are under the direction of LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Lutheran Church, Leipsic, NALC Disaster Response, or Leipsic Food Pantry, all in care of Love Heitmeyer Funeral Home, 405 E. Third Street, Ottawa, OH 45875.
