LeShavous Deon "Chuck" Thompkins
LeShavous (Chuck) Deon Thompkins, 43, went to be home with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, after a long battle with lung cancer. He was in the Hospice Unit at Blanchard Valley Hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends when the angels came to take him to his heavenly home.
LeShavous was born Nov. 17, 1979, in
Augusta, Georgia, to Anna Mae Thompkins â€" Curry. He was raised by Forrest Howard, who precedes him in death.
Chuck found his way to Ohio in 2011. He crossed paths with Deborah K. Phillips in 2013 and they were joined in Holy Matrimony on June 20, 2020. Deborah was with Chuck every step of the way through his strong battle against cancer.
Chuck had two children and two stepchildren that meant the world to him, Mekhal Thompkins of
Augusta, Georgia, Josiah Woodard of
Augusta, Georgia, and Justin and Mackenzie Phillips of Findlay. Surviving him is his grandmother, Mary Francis Thompkins of
Harlem, Georgia; mother and stepfather, Abe and Anna Mae Curry of
Harlem, Georgia; brothers, LeFerris (Duck) Howard of
Harlem, Georgia, Rick Boone of
Augusta, Georgia, Draper Jones of August, Georgia, and Chris Randolph of Sofia, Bulgaria; two aunts, Mildred (Olen) Martin of
Harlem, Georgia, and Nancy Thompkins of Savannah, Georgia; two uncles, LeRoy and David (Bud) Thompkins both of
Harlem, Georgia; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; the Shanks family that he accepted as his own; and a grandbaby that will arrive in July, 2023.
Chuck was preceded in death by great-grandmothers, Rosa Hunt and Lilly Mae Gibson; grandfather, Nathan Thompkins; cousin, Travis (FatBack) Thompkins; godparents, Lizzy and Willy Dunn; mother-in-law, Betty M. Aurand; stepson, Austin J. Phillips; and niece, Heaven L. Ramey.
Chuck was a BIG sports fanatic! He loved his Los Angeles Lakers, New York Yankees, and was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys and Georgia Bulldogs fan. He loved to play basketball and continued to play on the Whirlpool league (where he worked until June, 2021) three days before he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He never missed a game that Ja Morant has played in the NBA and was a supporter of Memphis Grizzles. Chuck also loved all kinds of music, from rap, soul, pop, and country. He listened to F1 of FMG on a daily basis, a friend of the family. F1's music gave him the inspiration to keep pushing forward. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and cooking on the grill. He attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church in
Harlem, Georgia, until he moved to Ohio. Chuck and his wife tried to find a church here in Ohio, but was unable to find one that fit them. So, they would visit various churches in the area with his father-in-law, R. Lee Ramey.
Chuck was a strong and courageous man that didn't know a stranger. He has touched so many lives by his generous words of encouragement, advice, a shoulder to cry on, and a swift kick in the rear when it was needed. Chuck was always straight up and real with everyone! He was a very caring and loving man that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He had the most affectious smile and lit up every room he walked in. He touched and left a very good impression on everyone he came in contact with. Chuck will be dearly missed by many from Ohio to Georgia, especially his hometown
Harlem, Georgia. #Puggyville #PVC
