Kenneth Lee Burnett, 86, of Plain Dealing, Louisiana, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, at Many Healthcare North in Many, Louisiana.
Kenneth was born Thursday, Oct. 8, 1936, in Defiance.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Lee Burnett, and his wife, Sheila, of Florien, Louisiana; daughter, Tonia Renee Burnett-Morgan, and her husband, Bill, of Sheridan, Arkansas; stepson, Mike Skinner and his wife, Melissa; stepdaughter, Leah Skinner; brothers, Larry Gene Burnett of Findlay and Vernon Jay "Randy" Burnett of Pleasant View, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Chaudoir (wife, Rebecca), Lisa Porterfield (husband, Kevin), Jeremy Lee Burnett (wife, Sarah), Jonathan Todd Burnett (wife, Casey), Daniel Thaxton (wife, Amanda), and Tye Thaxton (wife, Adrianna "Dri"); nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Burnett and Maude Levina (Harmon) Burnett; wife, Patsy Burnett; daughter, Pamela Marie (Burnett) Shea; sisters, Ruth Marie Harmon and Rose Ann Nagy; and brother, John Lawrence Burnett.
Ken was a Christian. He dearly loved reading and studying the word of God. He loved gospel music and played guitar, both contemporary and traditional hymns. His favorites were "How Great Thou Art," "I Can Only Imagine," "Amazing Love," and many more. He was bold in sharing his relationship with God and encouraged others to develop a relationship if they didn't already have one. He delighted in inviting people to come to church with him.
Kenny loved his family and was a worker with a servant's heart. He was a provider and believed in working hard, even if it required working three jobs. He instilled in his children strong work ethics. He also taught us skills to improvise and how to make things work by using resources that were available on hand.
Ken delighted in helping others and would go above and beyond to help a friend or neighbor. He was skilled in many areas. There wasn't any project that he would shy away from. He was a "jack of all trades" and if he didn't know how to do something, he would figure it out.
He served in U.S. Army from June, 1954 through June, 1957, and was stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana, receiving the National Defense Service Medal â€" Korean War.
He was a licensed pilot. As Postmaster in Fisher, Louisiana, he loved his customers. Many times, he would see customers driving or walking up to the post office and he would have their mail ready to pass hand-to-hand with a smile and usually a little bit of chit-chat. He loved to put a smile on their faces as he liked to tease and sometimes aggravate just a little bit. It was always with that special twinkle in his eyes.
Ken received his Letter of Accommodation after completing 30 years of service from U.S. Postal Service upon retirement from Gardner, Colorado. After retiring from the Postal Service, he was able to do a variety of things including driving gravel trucks and water trucks. He even played cowboy a few times as he would help his friends with their mountain ranches. Everyone who knew him, knew of his love of Colorado. It was the vast openness, broken by the snow-capped mountains that allowed him to feel calm tranquility and deep peacefulness.
The family would like to thank Many Healthcare and Superior hospice for their loving care.
Kenneth's memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church near Florien, Louisiana, with Bro. Matt Warren officiating.
