Alice Loomis Obituary

Alice Emma (Stahl/DeWese) Loomis

Alice was born at home, in rural Alvada, to the late Charles L. and Inez B. (Fruth) Stahl, April 4, 1936. Neither her parents nor the doctor were aware there were twins until her twin brother, Allen Emmet Stahl, was born. Their three-year-old brother John welcomed them.

Alice started first grade at Arcadia School. Then the family moved to Van Buren. She attended Van Buren School from 2nd grade through graduation. She was involved in various school bands, choirs, school newspaper, Student Council, and was Homecoming Queen attendant.

She first married Phillip A. Dewese, September 9, 1956, and later divorced in 1989. They had four children, Cynthia Sue "Cyndi" (Dewese) Patterson, Robert Allen Stahl Dewese, Jeffry Phillip Andrew "Jeff" DeWese, and Scott Charles Stahl Dewese.

On August 22, 1992, she married George A. Loomis Jr. They were proud of their home outside Weston, Ohio. J.R. maintained a well-manicured lawn. Alice planted numerous beautiful flowers. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary by renewing their wedding vows in June of 2017. All six children and their spouses were attendants.

Alice graduated from Bowling Green Area School of Practical Nursing in 1971, and that same year she obtained her Nursing Home Administrator License from U.T. and B.G.S.U.

Her work experience included Ohio Oil Company (now Marathon Oil Company), Ajusto Equipment Company, Daybrook Hydraulic/Young Spring & Wire, Wood County Nursing Home in Bowling Green as Assistant Administrator, Auglaize Acres in Wapakoneta Nursing Home as Administrator, and Lutheran Memorial Nursing Home in Sandusky as Administrator.

Lifetime member of Wood County Genealogical Society, Public Employees Retirement, and Wood County Historical Society. Member of Sonlight Church of God, Wood County Hospital Guild Board, and Wood County Township Trustee. She was an Avon Representative for 28 years, and a Longaberger Consultant and Collector's Club Member. Met monthly with high school classmates for brunch. Also enjoyed attending the Abraham and Sarah Group at Sonlight Church.

Loved to sing, dance, and play cards. She sang in multiple church choirs.

She is survived by her children, Cyndi (Mike) Patterson, Bloomdale, Robert (Michele) Dewese, Grand Rapids, Jeff (Roxann) DeWese, McClure, and Scott (Deb) Dewese, Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Michael and Deserae Patterson, Findlay, Dustin and Angie Patterson, Henderson, Texas, Shawn and Erin Shaffer, Cygnet, Matt and Teremy Shaffer, Dowling, Amanda Phillips, Bowling Green, Joe and Lisa Kelly, Helena, David and Loushila Kelly, McClure, Tom Kelly, Napoleon, Christopher and Courtney Buehrer, Bowling Green, and Trevor Buehrer, Grand Rapids; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.R. Loomis; her parents; brothers, John and Allen Stahl; and great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Shaffer.

Alice truly cherished life and time spent with her family and friends, including her church family. She spent over a year at the Willows and enjoyed new friendships.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Willows for their fun and excellent care. Also, we are very appreciative of the compassionate and excellent care at Wood County Hospital.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2026, at Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home, Bowling Green and from 10 a.m. until time of her Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Sonlight Church, Weston. Interment will immediately follow at Weston Cemetery.
