Karen Thompson Obituary

Karen Sue Thompson

Karen Sue Thompson (née Householder) was born Oct. 19, 1959, in Findlay, and passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, in Austin, Texas.

In between, she lived in Wyoming, Texas, Indiana, Louisiana, Texas again, Africa, Michigan, and Texas one last time.

Karen married Brad Thompson on May 24, 1980, at St. Michael's Church in Findlay, and he survives in Austin.

She is also survived by her mother, Eleanor Householder; daughter, Amanda (YiJia) Chu; son, John (Lindsay) Thompson; daughter-in-law, Kerry Thompson; grandchildren, Cormac, Arden, Oliver, Ivy, Milo, Silas, Maxine, and Henry; and siblings, Debby, Bruce, Janie, John, and Robert.

Karen was preceded in death by her beloved son, Douglas; and father, Melvin Householder.

Karen loved her family dearly, taking particular joy in being a mother and grandmother. Without ever a second thought, she devoted her life, in both mind and body, to caring for and nurturing her family. Karen's final gestures in life demonstrated her affection for her husband and children.

Karen was naturally gifted in everything it takes to care for a family. We could list her many talents and abilities individually, but they are best summed up in a simple sentence: Karen was a problem solver. Like her father before her, Karen could look at a situation, identify what was amiss, and confidently offer the correct solution for making it better. And she often accomplished this before anyone else even knew something was wrong.

We will – and do – miss her deeply.

In keeping with Karen's final wishes, there will be no public service.

The family is being assisted with arrangements by Harrell Funeral Home of Austin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society or organization of donor's choosing.

Karen was one of the kindest, sweetest people I have ever met. I´m so sorry that she struggled with cancer and ultimately overcame it in passing. My deepest sympathy to Brad, her children, and all who knew her and loved her.
