Julia Deppen Obituary

Julia Lynn Deppen

Julia Lynn Deppen of Hiram, Georgia, previously of Findlay, passed away Friday, January 31, 2025, at the age of 72, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Bruce Deppen; three children, Adrianna (Kevin) Whipple, Jacob (Bhakti) Deppen, and Grant (Lindsey) Deppen; and four adored grandchildren, Claire Whipple, Nikhil Deppen, Isabelle Whipple, and Niam Deppen.

Julie was born in Findlay June 21, 1952, to Earl and Edna (Haley) Roether.

She was a beloved sister to nine siblings, Susan (Vilmos) Zsigmond, Mary Lee Zahler, Roseanne Graham, Patricia (Jerry) Miller, Tom Roether, John Roether, Terry (Mark) Monday, Barbara (Mark) McNamara, and David Roether. She was "Aunt Julie" to dozens of nieces, nephews, and even those outside of the family.

Julie was educated at St. Michael's Archangel Parish School through 8th grade and graduated from Findlay High School in 1970. During these formative years, she was highly engaged in school activities. This led to many close friendships and fond memories that lasted a lifetime.

After graduating from Findlay, she attended Bowling Green State University. Subsequently, she left the area for a time, living in the warmth of southern California and Miami, Florida.

She and Bruce Deppen were married at St. Michael's downtown in Findlay April 26, 1980. Julie and Bruce remained in Findlay, raising their family.

Julie passionately educated children at First Presbyterian Church Nursery School (FPCNS) for over 25 years until her retirement in 2018. Her many students over the years filled her with pride and hope for the future.

Julie was heavily involved in a range of volunteer and philanthropic roles in Findlay. She supported the community in various capacities with Findlay City Schools, Cub Scouts, Campfire, Christian Clearinghouse, and any other endeavor that her children were a part of.

In her downtime, she enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends. She hosted many holidays and gatherings, bringing people together. She always liked a hot cup of coffee with her close friends in the Mound Park neighborhood. She also met regularly with another group of friends known as Bingo Mamas. Her friends always brought her laughter, joy, and camaraderie.

Upon retirement, Julie and Bruce relocated to Hiram, Georgia, to be close to their children and grandchildren. There, Julie attended every event imaginable for the grandkids. She even reprised her role as a teacher for them when schools closed during the pandemic.

Julie remained active in her community in Georgia, with local book clubs and assisting with events hosted by the neighborhood HOA.

Julie is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Edna Roether; sister, Mary Lee Zahler; father- and mother-in-law, Willis and Lois Deppen; brothers-in-law Douglas Deppen and Vilmos Zsigmond.

A celebration of life is being planned in Findlay for June 14, 2025. Details will be provided by family as the date gets closer.

To the Deppen and Roether families, as Julie´s sweet soul has transitioned peacefully with no more pain, I want to express my condolences to all of you during this sad time. I loved Jules and as one of her Bingo mamas, we had such a great time each month laughing and chatting! She loved us so much! My sincere sympathies go out to each of you. So sorry for your loss. `Mrs Deppen´ was a favorite teacher of many First Pres preschool students and families, ours included. She was loved by all who knew her. Prayers for God´s peace to be with all of her family and friends.
