Joyce Nadine (Sams) Van Schoik

Joyce Nadine (Sams) Van Schoik, 91, resident of Brookdale Senior Living and formerly of Dunkirk, passed away peacefully at 9:45 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2024.

She was born Aug. 9, 1932, in Hardin County, to Donald Sams and Doris (McBride) (Sams) Wedertz. Joyce grew up in Dunkirk and graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1950.

She married Harvey Benson Van Schoik on Oct. 26, 1950, and he preceded her in death after more than 66 years together.

Joyce is survived by her children, Tim (Samantha Naug) Van Schoik of Apex, North Carolina, and Lynn Dee (Van Schoik) Schank of Findlay; three grandchildren, Joshua Van Schoik of Colorado, Katherine (Van Schoik) Renaud of Chicago, Illinois, and Sarah (Don) Burdette of Fremont, California; three great-grandchildren, Ashton Van Schoik and Lilah and Trent Burdette; five half-brothers, Doyle (Sharon) Sams, David Sams, Duane Sams, Devere Sams, and Dennis (Sue) Sams, all of Hardin County; and brother-in-law, Richard Hipsher of Findlay.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Charles Wedertz; and four sisters, Rita Jean Waltermire, N. Colleen Abbott, Iris Eileen Hipsher, and Reba Charlene Sams.

She retired from Kodak/Qualex in Findlay.

Joyce's funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Price-McElroy Funeral Home, Kenton, with Pastor Gregg King officiating. Burial will follow at Dunkirk Cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will be 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dunkirk Grace United Methodist Church, Hardin Northern Community Center, or the donor's choice.
