Jean Isabell Livesay
Jean Isabell (George) Livesay, 85, of Findlay, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, at her residence. Jean fought a battle with metastasized Pancreatic cancer. She will be forever missed and mourned.
Jean was born Jan. 26, 1938, to Mary Lockhart (Gillilan) George and Henry Hunter George of rural
Frankford, West Virginia, in the home in which her mother was born.
Jean married Lewis Douglas Livesay of
Frankford, West Virginia, on Dec. 22, 1955, in Virginia. He preceded her in death.
Jean is survived by a daughter, DeAnn G. Livesay of Findlay; son, D. Alan Livesay of Findlay; grandson, Alexander Livesay of Findlay; granddaughter, Haley Drown of Canal Winchester; great-grandson, Landon; siblings, Samuel (Irene) George of White Sulphur Springs, WV, James (Shelby) George of Loveland, M. Ruth Seldomridge of
Ronceverte, WV, Sarah Workman of Florida, and Judith (Bob) Brown of
Frankford, WV; brothers-in-law, James Decker of
Edgewood, Maryland, and Collin Osbourne of rural
Ocala, Florida; sister-in-law, Laura Bryant; brothers-in-law, Paul (Carolyn) Livesay and O. Terry (Debra) Livesay, all of rural Frankford; and a great many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews scattered across the eastern United States.
Jean was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, M. Kay Decker, Patricia Osbourne, and E. Olive Fisher of Greenbrier County, WV; brothers-in-law, Andrew Seldomridge, Allen Workman, Larry Bennett, Gary Bryant, and A. Wayne Livesay; sister-in-law, Regina Bennett; and nephew, William George of Greenbrier County, WV.
Jean started school at four years of age at Frankford School where she was first in her class from day one until graduation. She valedictorian of the class of 1955. She was awarded a scholarship to Greenbrier College for Women in
Lewisburg, West Virginia, where she attended alongside of Ambassadors, daughters, and other dignitaries' daughters from around the world.
Jean was a homemaker and involved in community endeavors while raising her children, such as Block Watch. She was PTA President at Howard School, Den Mother for BSA, and Room mother until her children aged out. Later, she helped found a Lupus Foundation of America Chapter in Findlay in support of her daughter and other Lupians.
When her children were in high school, she entered the workforce at Sunbeam Printing Services and JC Penney. She retired in 2000. Jean's greatest joy was being a grandmother and sharing time with her grandchildren.
Jean also enjoyed sewing, making clothes for her daughter and granddaughter, and some for her son and grandson. She knitted and did a bit of crocheting. Later, she took up piecing quilt blocks and hand quilting until her hands objected. Later, she started to machine quilt. She left some unfinished projects.
There will be no local service. She will be returned to Frankford to be laid to rest with her husband, Lewis, a set of grandparents, and a host of other relatives.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Bridge Home Health & Hospice and Palliative Care for everything they did to make Jean's last days more comfortable.
