James Baker Obituary

James L. Baker

James L. Baker, 89, of Wharton, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2022.

He was born May 2, 1933, in Kenton, the son of Tracy and Olive (Brashares) Baker.

James (Jim) is survived by his daughter, Jeralyn of Michigan; sister, Beverly Bennett of Upper Sandusky; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and special friends and neighbors.

He married Donna J. Dilley on May 5, 1967, at Patterson United Methodist Church and she preceded in him death in 2008 after 41 years of marriage.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers-in-law, David Bennett and Joseph Fabo.

James graduated from Wharton High School followed by enlisting in U.S. Navy in 1952. He served at U.S. Naval Air Facility, Navy #214, Port Lyautey, French Morocco, northern Africa as personnel support during the Korean War. After his enlistment, he became employed at United Aircraft Products in Forest, later became Parker Hannifin, from which he retired with over 30 years service in 1994. He was an active member of his local U.A.W.

James thoroughly enjoyed his retirement, remaining at this family's homestead in Wharton pursuing his hobbies. He enjoyed attending auctions and Wyandot County Fair with his family. He also liked going to horse racing with his friends, especially the Little Brown Jug for many years in Delaware, Ohio. Jim was also an avid reader and collector of Findlay Glass. He especially loved Wyandot County, living a good life there in the countryside.

A private graveside service took place Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, at Wharton Richland Union Cemetery, Wharton, with Pastor Doug Pummel officiating a beautiful service. Arrangements were handled by Clark Shields Funeral Home. James received military honors for his service to our country.

Memorial contributions may be made to any local humane society or animal shelter or any veteran's association.
