Ilene L. Hoy

Ilene L. Hoy, 95, of Alvada, passed away at 4:23 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.

She was born Sept. 6, 1928, at home, to Merritt B. and Lola A. (Thomas) Metzger. Ilene married C. Richard "Dick" Hoy on Sept. 30, 1950, and he preceded her in death Oct. 9, 2018.

Ilene is survived by three sons, Eldon (Judy) Hoy of Alvada, Alan R. (Lorena) Hoy of Findlay, and Harlan (Lisa) Hoy of Alvada; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Mark (Drena) Metzger of Alvada.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Teresa Smiley; and brother, John Metzger.

Ilene was a graduate of Arcadia High School and following school, she was a homemaker.

She was a lifetime member of West Independence United Methodist Church. Ilene participated as a member in the Women of Worth (WOW) group at her church and also enjoyed the Sew/Quilt group at Gateway Church. She was part of Vanlue Garden Club and Hancock County Naturalist. For more than 20 years, Ilene volunteered for the Red Cross. She spent many seasons serving on the Election Board.

For many years, Ilene has had a garden and found joy in working in her lawn and flower beds. She and Dick went on several mission trips over the years and traveled to visit Europe, Australia, and Japan. The best times in Ilene's mind were family get-togethers and trips.

Visitation for family and friends will be 3-7 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, and 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, until the time of Ilene's funeral at 11 a.m., all at West Independence United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ben Wallick and the Rev. Dennis Gaertner will officiate. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery.
