Glenn R. Coats

Glenn R. Coats, 92, of Findlay, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.

He was born Nov. 24, 1930, in Cleveland, to Adelbert and Ruby F. (Lawrence) Soukup. Glenn was adopted by Ruby's husband, Raymond Coats, in 1938.

Glenn was a 1948 graduate of Chatham High School. He married Shirley Jean Correll on Aug. 14, 1949, during Glenn's first year attending Ashland College. Shirley and Glenn spent the rest of their lives together until her passing May 9, 2002. They welcomed twin boys, John and James, on their first wedding anniversary. 11 months later, they welcomed their only daughter, Bertha Jean. Three years later, their final child, Paul, was born.

The Coats family lived in Ashland while Glenn attended Cornus Hill Bible College near Akron from 1953 until graduating in 1957. That summer, the family moved to Leesburg, Indiana, so Glenn could attend Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana, graduating with a Masters Degree in just three years in 1961. The family then moved to Sellersburg, Indiana, where Glenn served as Pastor of Grace Brethren Church, while also working full-time at the W.T. Grant Store and then Sears.

Glenn and his family moved to Findlay in 1968 where here served as Pastor at Findlay Grace Brethren Church for eight years. He also worked at Blanchard Valley Supply for four years and then Masterson's Ace Hardware from 1980-2019.

Glenn is survived by his sons, John E. (Colleen) Coats of Sevierville, Tennessee, and Paul F. (Violetta) Coats of Huber Heights; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Glenn was also preceded in death by his parents; son, James R. Coats; and daughter, Bertha J. Clinger.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023, at CRATES FUNERAL HOME, 620 North Main Street, Arlington, and 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, until the time of Glenn's funeral at 11 a.m. at Bible Fellowship Church, 11906 W. Fellowship Dr., Arlington. Pastor Jerry Kellogg will officiate. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery.
