Forrest J. Clingerman

Forrest John Clingerman, 52, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at his home.

Forrest was born Jan. 29, 1972, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to John and Claire (Spaulding) Clingerman who survive. He married Gail (Pearson) Clingerman on Aug. 20, 1994, and she also survives.

Forrest graduated from Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Massachusetts. He then received his bachelors from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, where he met his wife, Gail. He received his Masters of Divinity from Boston University before earning his Ph.D from University of Iowa. Forrest was a dedicated professor of philosophy and religion at Ohio Northern University and served as the director of the honors program there since 2019. In his free time, Forrest enjoyed hiking, backpacking, bird watching, and geocaching. He loved being outdoors and was a Cub Scout leader for five years. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his mother, Claire Clingerman of Orange, Massachusetts; father, John Clingerman of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; wife, Gail Clingerman of Bluffton; two children, Sabina and Asa Clingerman, both of Bluffton; two sisters, Mercedes (George) Clingerman of Orange, Massachusetts, and Heatherle Clingerman of Woonsocket, Rhode Island; and two nieces.

Forrest's services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton. Pastor Elizabeth Kelly will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date in Orange, Massachusetts. Visitation will be 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
