Doris Cole Obituary

Doris Grace Cole

Doris Grace (Kring) Cole, 92 of Findlay, peacefully entered her heavenly home while surrounded by her loving family at 4:05 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, at Birchaven Village.

She was born Oct. 26, 1931, to William L. and Vivian E. (Rader) Kring. Doris married Melvin L. Cole on Feb. 18, 1951, and he preceded her in death in July, 2022, after 71 years of marriage.

Doris is survived by two sons, Gregory M. (Vicki) Cole of Findlay and Gary W. (Brenda) Cole of Six Mile, South Carolina; grandchildren, Andrew (Jodi) Cole of Perrysburg and Sarah (Bradley) Sorn of Findlay; stepgrandchildren, Timothy Ryan and Christina (Cris) Bell; great-grandchildren, Evan and Levi Sorn, Oliver Cole, and Kyle and Ryan Bell; one stepgreat-great-granddaughter; stepsister, Ellen (Ron) Gillette of Florida; and sister-in-law, Frances Evilo Kring of Findlay.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Bradley A. Cole; infant great-grandson, Lincoln A. Cole; brother, Lawrence W. Kring; sister, Margaret E. Bond; and stepmother, Annabelle Kring.

After graduating from Findlay High School in 1949, Doris became a typist for five years at Ohio Oil (now Marathon). While working there as a newlywed, mail personnel rushed letters to her from Melvin while he fought on the front lines of the Korean War. Doris later worked alongside Melvin for 40 years farming, including growing peanuts in Georgia. Doris also enjoyed working for 30 years as the secretary for several managers of Eastman Kodak Company in Findlay.

Doris and Melvin loved to fish (especially at the Esnagi Lodge in Canada) and travel (oftentimes by bus). They also loved to take frequent family trips together with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to Michigan, Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, and Amish country.

Doris had a deep love for her family and the Lord. She attended Trinity Baptist Church in Findlay. She was strong, quick witted, had an amazing memory, and loved to use her secretarial skills in every aspect of her life.

Visitation for family and friends will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023, until the time of Doris' service at 1 p.m. at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, 205 West Sandusky Street, Findlay. Chaplain Linda Davison will officiate. Doris will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bridge Home & Health Hospice, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay, Ohio, 45840, and Flag City Honor Flight, P.O. Box 855, Findlay, Ohio, 45840.

Doris's family would like to thank Birchaven Village and Primrose Retirement Community for the love and care shown to Doris over the years and in her final days.

Was on a senior citizens bus trip to Charleston and Savannah with Doris and Melvin several years ago. A great time! I also share in laws with Doris.
