Donald Edward "Folly" Follas

Donald Edward "Folly" Follas, 92, of Arlington, passed away Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

He was born Aug. 3, 1931, in Delphos, to Orwell and Bessie (Bowman) Follas. Don married C. Jean Shenk on April 6, 1955, and she preceded him in death Dec. 6, 1985.

Folly is survived by two sons, Van (Jane) Follas of Arlington and J. Jay Follas of Rockport; daughter, Diana (Larry) Durain of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Andrew (Lindsay) Follas, Abby (Andrew) Fitch, Joellen (Josh Brown) Lehman, Sarah (Clint Strickland) Melton, Lynna (Sam) Shaw, and Cassidy (Adam Lee) Durain; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Taylor, Megan, Lila, Sadie, Eli, Caycee, Owen, and Wyatt; two sisters, Patsy (John) Kirkendall and Connie Plummer; and sister-in-law, Kay Fowler.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Dale, Elbert, William, and Robert.

He was a 1949 graduate of Elida High School and then graduated from Northwestern Business College in Lima. He served his country in U.S. Army from 1949-1952. Don worked for Marathon Oil Company for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He was also a farmer and served on the Arlington School Board, Bridge Hospice Board, and was a lifetime member of Sycamore Springs Golf Course. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, basketball, and fast-pitch softball, and coached youth sports and officiated high school basketball. Don also enjoyed attending Arlington High School sporting events with his good friend, Bob. He also enjoyed playing in a Tuesday travel golf league with his friends and traveling with them to Florida each winter to play golf. Don was a member of Findlay Elks Lodge and VFW.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024, until the time of Folly's funeral at 4 p.m. at CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Arlington. Private family burial will be later at Arlington Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Donald to Mt. Zion Church.

We're so thankful we got to visit Don in August, our long time friend (almost 60 years) that visited us everywhere we lived, Indianapolis, Houston, and Russell, Ky. We'll always cherish our happy memories of Don!
