Dale M. Gillespie

Dale M. Gillespie, 87, of Findlay, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023, at Bridge Hospice Care Center.

He was born Sept. 3, 1935, in Toledo, to the late Marvin and Virginia (Arnold) Gillespie. Dale married Wanda Slocum on Dec. 29, 1957. They recently celebrated 65 years of marriage and she survives.

He is also survived by his son, David Gillespie of Findlay; daughter, Andrea Shellenbarger of Findlay; grandson, Caleb Shellenbarger of Findlay; and brother, Marvin (Bonnie) Gillespie of Oak Harbor.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory D. Gillespie.

He graduated from Findlay College where he met his future wife, Wanda. Dale was an active member of College First Church of God as an usher and was on the church council and Men Alive. He was a member of Moose, Elks, Findlay Shrine Club, Findlay Clowns, and F & AM 227. Dale served 10 years on Findlay City Council and was President for three of those years.

He received Distinguished Alumni Award from The University of Findlay. Dale was inducted into the Hall of Fame from Clay High School, University of Findlay, and Hancock County Sports Hall of Fame. He loved boating, fishing, and hunting, and was a former softball player. Dale enjoyed traveling with Nipper's Navy on Lake Erie.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2023, at College First Church of God, 1100 N. Main Street, Findlay. Dale's funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the church with Pastor David Welker presiding. Private burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Bridge Home Health and Hospice or College First Church of God.

My deepest sympathy. Dale was a senior at FC when I transfered to FC. He was quite a baseball player and I tried to hit the ball as far as he did. God bless Chico and his family.
