D. Mauk Obituary
D. Gwenn Mauk, 85, of North Baltimore, died at 12:39 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.
She was born Jan. 2, 1939, in Geneva, to Harry Aubrey MacLean and Beatrice (Partee) Hyslop. She married Bruce Mauk on Aug. 14, 1960, and he preceded her in death Oct. 21, 2020.
Gwenn is survived by her daughter, Brenda Lynne DeVore of North Baltimore; sons, Bradley W. Mauk of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Brian E. (Paula) Mauk of Oregon, Ohio; brother, William (Deb) Hyslop of The Villas, Florida; grandchildren, Katelyn Beatrice DeVore of Findlay, Allison Helen (Dustin) Crawford of Marion, Matthew Amos (Kate Marie) DeVore of Whitehouse, Nicholas Dudley DeVore of Van Buren, and Kyle Franklin Mauk of Las Vegas, Nevada; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Karen Mauk of Toledo; and beloved furry great-granddogs, Diesel, Axel, Dani, Farley, Azul, Beta, and Rocko.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and granddaughter, Rachael Elaine Mauk Stimmel.
Gwenn retired from North Baltimore Schools after 31 years, where she was a teacher, coach, and athletic director. She was a 1960 graduate of Bowling Green State University, where she duel majored in Education as well as Health and Physical Education. Gwenn was a longtime active member of Holy Family Catholic Church, North Baltimore.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024, at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore.
Gwen's funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at the funeral home with Father Art Niewiadomski officiating. Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, North Baltimore or North Baltimore Schools.

"Gwennaroo" was my dear cousin, who I'd known all my life, as a babysitter when I was a child, to an engaging conversationalist and storyteller of all things "Hyslop Family" related to genealogy. She is now gone but not forgotten. She was the matriarch of the family, who knew so much about our geneaology through her extensive, on-site research, even going to the British Isles to find answers of our early kin. She eschewed computers (and cellphones), painstakingly drew genealogy maps, collecting and writing down family stories, and was the "Hyslop Family Go-To Girl" when questions of our past arose. I hope all her collective writings are preserved for the family, especially for those of us who have a desire to know answers about our past kin. She could literally spout this information off the top of her head, she was so knowledgable. I will miss our wonderful conversations.
She will be greatly missed.
