Charles E. Merrin
Charles "Chuck" Edward Merrin of Findlay was born July 12, 1938, in Fredericktown, Ohio, and passed away peacefully at home with his family Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022, at the age of 84.
Chuck is the son of Frederick Leedy and Mary Adeline (Phillips) Merrin. He was the middle child of five. He graduated from Fredericktown High School. He then attended Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana, where he met the love of his life, Evelyn "Evie" Louise Cramer. They were married July 22, 1961, and moved to Findlay in 1964 where they spent the next 58 years.
During his years in Findlay, he had several jobs, including Ridge and Associates, OH Materials, and Meijer for 30 years, retiring in 2010. He worked until he was 72 years old, by choice, because he loved interacting with people. In addition, he spent over 15 years helping his children with their Findlay Courier paper routes.
Chuck had many accomplishments in life. He drafted an entire blueprint for a two-story house, including plumbing and electric, which was approved by the state. He was extremely proud of this. He would say one of his favorite accomplishments would be raising a wonderful family with his wife, and reaching their 61st anniversary.
Faith in Jesus was the central part of Chuck's life. He attended three churches while in Findlay: Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where he was an elder and hymn leader, Grace Brethren Church, and First United Brethren Church on Rector Ave. where he was a current member. Sunday mornings were a thing he looked forward to weekly. His vibrant faith continues to be the anchor for his family.
Chuck enjoyed spending time with friends from work and church. He had the ability to strike up a conversation with pretty much anyone that he came in contact with. Chuck never met a stranger. He also enjoyed doing projects such as woodworking and remodeling. He spent time doing jigsaw puzzles, puzzle games, crosswords, Sudoku, playing scrabble, reading the paper and books, and most of all, spending time with family. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren deeply.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Evie; their six children, Julie Merrin of Findlay, Rick (Irma) Merrin of San Antonio, Texas, Janet (John) Lazar of Massillon, Beth Merrin (Kass Miller) of Perrysburg, Steve (Andrea) Merrin of Bellefontaine, and Doug Merrin of Findlay; grandchildren, Joey (Maggie) Lazar, Justin Lazar (Evelyn Rutherford), Jennifer Lazar, Elijah Merrin, Saige Merrin, Rachel Merrin, Emma Merrin, Andrea Sophia Merrin, Alex Merrin, and Isaac Merrin; and great-grandson, Watson Lazar; siblings, Arthur (Nancy) Merrin of Ocean Shores, Washington, Louise ("Sparky") Yost of Haines City, Florida, Esther (Charlie) Bursha of Haines City, Florida, and David (Vicki) Merrin of Fredericktown; sister-in-law, Janis (Angelo) Conti of Findlay; and brother-in-law, Roger (Chris) Cramer of Findlay.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Richard "Dick" and Matilda "Tillie" Cramer; brother-in-law, Kevin Cramer; and great-grandson, Kayson James Lazar.
