Betty Fritz Obituary

Betty Jean Fritz

Betty J. Fritz, 92, of Findlay, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Primrose Retirement Community with her family at her side.

She was born March 16, 1932, in Jasper, Indiana, to Edwin and Margaret (Reckelhoff) Heeke. She married Don E. Fritz on May 1, 1952, and he preceded her in death Aug. 3, 2019, after 67 years of marriage.

In 1957, Betty and Don, along with his parents, moved to Findlay and opened the Western Auto Store that later became the Bike Emporium. Betty was a homemaker, involved in the business with Don and his parents, and also worked as a team leader at McDonald's.

Betty enjoyed many family trips to her hometown in Indiana and vacations to Florida and Mackinac Island. She loved spending time with her family, sitting on her back porch, reading, challenging puzzles and word searches, and the annual Memorial Day parade that passed by her home. While at Primrose, she enjoyed friendship with her dining mates and caring staff, rosary at the chapel, and watching the Cleveland Guardians baseball games.

Betty attended St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. She was a member of the Leo Councellettes and assisted with funeral lunches at Knights of Columbus for many years.

She is survived by her children, Mike Fritz (Ann), Pam Leichty, and Suzan Eckert (Allen); grandchildren, Casey Leichty (Megan), Corey Leichty (Andrea), Kari Jackson (Evan), Haley Kersting (Eric), and Curtis Eckert (Lauren); great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Josiah, Dean, Talon, Beckett, Lennox, Caroline, Leah, Fritz, Wells, Noah, Sawyer, and Jackson; and sister, Rosemary Wigand.

Betty was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy Korff; and brothers-in-law, Louie Korff and Linus Wigand.

The family would like to thank the staff at Primrose and Bridge Hospice for the care of their mother.

Visitation will be 8:30-10 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2024, at St. Michael the Archangel Downtown Chapel, 617 W Main Cross Street, Findlay, Ohio, 45840, with funeral Mass to follow. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Parish, 750 Bright Road, Findlay, Ohio, 45840, or Bridge Hospice Care Center, 1900 South Main Street, Findlay, Ohio, 45840.

Betty was a wonderful person and friend. A next door neighbor at one time when our first-born was a baby. She had such a big heart and was so helpful in many ways. Loved her laughter.
