Bernita Sarah Nighswander

Bernita Sarah Nighswander, 92, of Leipsic, passed away at 6:44 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023, at Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

She was born Nov. 12, 1930, in Miller City, to Lewis and Innise (Leip) Moore. She married Albert Nighswander on Dec. 28, 1952, and he survives in Leipsic.

Bernita is also survived by five children, Rayola (David Humphreys) Risner of McGuffey, Regina Jones of Findlay, Candace "Candy" Richardson of Denison, Texas, Albert (Annette) Nighswander of Leipsic, and Douglas (Kim) Nighswander of Mandale; eight grandchildren, Nick, Travis, Kenny, Jade, Elizabeth, Christina, Kayla, and Abby; four stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Janet Moore of Findlay.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons-in-law, Larry Risner and Keith Richardson; daughter-in-law, Brenda Nighswander; four brothers, Paul (Midge) Panning, Archie (Margaret) Moore, George (JoAnn) Moore, and Franklin (LaDonna) Moore; and two infant sisters.

Bernita was a homemaker and enjoyed babysitting. She was a member of the Belmore and Leipsic United Methodist Church. Bernita was also a member of the Old Maid's Club until 1952. She loved baking and always had her cookie jar and candy bowls full. Bernita also enjoyed embroidery and spending time with her family.

Bernita's funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic, with Pastor Laurie Beaty officiating. Burial will follow at West Belmore Cemetery, Belmore. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, and 9-10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
