Deacon Arden Harold Nye
Deacon Arden Harold Nye, 94, of Carey, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2025, at The Manor at Greendale, Findlay, surrounded by his loving family.
Arden was born September 28, 1930, in Carey to the late Orville and Flossie Mae (Putnam) Nye. He married his high school sweetheart Giovannina Catherine Pieranunzio on September 9, 1950, in the Rectory at Our Lady of Consolation, and she survives after 74 wonderful years of marriage. Arden is also survived by his loving daughters, Denise (Wayne) Kin and Theresa (Donald) Lyons; grandchildren, CJ (Jill) Kin, Samantha (Tom) Zaciewski, Nicholas (Melanie) Kin, Tobias (Ashley) Kin, Danee Currie, Alexis (Orion) Binder, Diana (William) Gomez and Donald (Grace) Lyons Jr.; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Brady, Lillian, Margaret, Simon, Theodore, Josephine, Clayton, Tanner, Emelia, Josie, Luna, Aysia, Teryn, Priscilla, Levi and a brother: Ron (Roberta) Nye.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Crene Nye, Esther Risner, Rosella Risser, Leonard Nye, Robert Nye, Annabelle Phillips, Fred Nye, Dwight Nye, Louise Shaull, Carol Walter, Donna Greer, Reid Nye and his son-in-law, Bradley Currie.
Arden was a 1950 graduate of Carey High School and shortly after graduation enlisted in the United States Navy, where he worked in the Communication Room, sending Morse Code. Upon being honorably discharged, Arden returned to Wyandot County to build his own home for his family. In 1995, he retired from Westinghouse in Upper Sandusky.
Arden was a faithful member of Our Lady of Consolation Parish in Carey. On June 26, 1983, Arden was ordained a Deacon within the Diocese of Toledo. Arden was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan and enjoyed playing a good round of golf. Arden had a green thumb. He loved being outdoors, working in his garden, and having his hands in the soil. Arden was a kind and patient person. He believed in service to others, always willing to help anyone in a time of need. At the same time, Arden had an ornery side to him, known to play a practical joke when the time was right.
Catholic funeral rites for Deacon Arden Harold Nye will begin with the Rite of Reception of the Body in the Basilica & National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, 315 Clay St.,
Carey, Ohio 43316, Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 4 p.m. where visitation will follow until 7 p.m. Vigil Service will be at the conclusion of the visitation. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Basilica & National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation with the Monsignor William Kubacki, Vicar General of Diocese of Toledo, as celebrant. Interment with military honors will be rendered at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted with Stombaugh-Batton & Snyder Funeral Home, Carey.
