Anne Moore Obituary

Anne Moore

Anne Moore (nee Norrie), 85, mother of five, granny to nine, and great-granny to one, died Friday, March 10, 2023.

Known to her family as "Hurricane Granny," Anne was born in Cowie, Stirlingshire, Scotland in 1938. The daughter of John Norrie and Catherine Norrie (nee Lavin), Anne attended St. Margaret's Primary School in Cowie, where she received the first dux medal bestowed by the school. She graduated from St. Modan's High School in Stirling, Scotland, where she played on the field hockey team. Anne emigrated to the United States in 1957 at the age of 19. She met her surviving husband, Hugh (born Motherwell, Scotland) at a soccer match in Brooklyn and they were married in 1961.

Anne considered the family's 1965 move to Findlay to be the most important decision of their lives. Anne was active in the St. Michael Church and School community and she was an avid bridge player participating in numerous bridge clubs throughout her time in Findlay. In the 1970s, Anne also helped start the girls soccer program in Findlay. She worked as a manager at Quality Farm and Fleet, but her favorite job was being Hurricane Granny to her nine grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Hugh Moore; brothers, John Norrie and Patrick Norrie; sisters, Antonia Norrie and Bernadette Price; five children, John Moore of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, Catherine Hopley of Findlay, Robert Moore of Wilmington, North Carolina, Bernadette Doe of Findlay, and Anne "Annie" Moore of Alexandria, Virginia; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 750 Bright Road, Findlay. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

I remember Anne mostly for her cracking sense of humor. My wife Santa only shared a short time with her at our wedding, yet great memories she reflected on often. Strong women bond easily. Love you Uncle Hugh and sending my heartfelt condolences to you and the family. I remember the joy, not sadness felt today. Love Michael
