Walter J. Gordon
Walter Joseph Gordon, 91, of Findlay, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 16, 2023, at The Christian Village at Mason, Ohio.
He was an amazing, quiet gentleman who left a trail of kindness and compassion with everyone who met him.
Walter was born Feb. 20, 1932, on his family farm in Deshler, to Raymond and Agnes (Konzen) Gordon. He married Ramona (Breece) Gordon on May 25, 1957, and they shared over 63 wonderful years together.
Walter graduated from Deshler High School in 1950 and he cherished his time playing baseball and the trumpet in the school's marching band, especially since Ramona was the head majorette. He also had fond memories of being a member of the Corn City Slickers polka band that played for dances all over northwest Ohio.
Walter served in U.S. Navy as a radio man during the Korean War. His tour of duty in the Pacific gave this "small town farm kid" the chance to see the world, including time in Alaska, Hawaii, Hong Kong, and Guam, and a chance to attend college afterward using the G.I. Bill.
Walter graduated from Indiana Tech in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He soon began a long, rewarding career working for RCA/GE/Harris Corporations at the Findlay plant for 36 years. There, he became an expert in electronic semiconductor manufacturing process control.
He loved his engineering work, but his family was his greatest joy. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Walter is survived by his children, Laura (Kent) Jackson of Lexington, Kentucky, John (Sue) Gordon of Cincinnati, and Joyce (Scott) McBride of Bucyrus; grandchildren, Gregory (Michelle) Jackson, Mark (Kristen) Jackson, Julie Jackson, Gina (Tony) Neumann, Claire (James) DeGraw, Ellen (Anthony) Steffen, Amy (Nelson) Wong, Alyse McBride, Christy McBride, and Matthew McBride; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Don Gordon; sister, Sr. Madelyn Marie Gordon, R.S.M.; and sister-in-law, DeeDee Breece.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Bob (Lee) Gordon; sisters, Mary (Bob) Haffner, Helen Rita (Sylvester) Neiling, Catherine (Francis) Gerschutz, and Clara (Don) Pittelkow; brothers-in-law, Louie Breece and Ben (Midge) Breece; and sister-in-law, Becky (Grant) Straley.
