Thomas J. "Tom" Fitzgerald

After a very brief illness, Thomas J. "Tom" Fitzgerald, 75, of Findlay, died at 12:04 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, at Bridge Hospice in Findlay. He was born in Akron May 7, 1949, to the late William T. and Rita B. (Geraghty) Fitzgerald. Tom was named after his maternal grandfather, Thomas Joseph Gerraghty, who was the first Ohioan to earn the Silver Star in World War I.

Tom was a 1967 graduate of Findlay High School and attended the University of Notre Dame. He retired in 2009, from Cooper Tire in Findlay. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and was involved in the entertainment business. Tom was very active in the Happy Hour Group and celebrated 36 and a half years of sobriety. His many loves included traveling, cruises, music, the arts and History Channel. He was a hypnosis therapist and a magician. His adventures included skydiving, being an airplane pilot, race cars and motorcycles. Tom's wisdom and knowledge will be forever remembered.

He is survived by his daughters, Jodi Marie Fleming of Long Beach, Mississippi, and Irene Renee (Brennan) Fitzgerald of Viroqua, Wisconsin; grandchildren Kylee and Mackenzie Fleming; brothers Dennis M. (Anita) Fitzgerald of Findlay, John (Sally) Fitzgerald of Louisville, Kentucky, and Jim (Denise Backstrom) Fitzgerald of Tupelo, Mississippi; nephews Mike, Mark, and Garret; and nieces, Erin, Maureen, Katie, and Tessa. Also surviving is his loving companion, Helen Wittenmyer.

Visitation for Tom will be 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay. His funeral service will be at the conclusion of visitation at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be immediately following at St. Michael Cemetery. Following the services at the cemetery, the family will have a reception at Findlay Inn and Conference Center.
