Thomas "Jerry" Coldiron
Thomas "Jerry" Coldiron, 87, of Carey, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 21, 2023, at Blanchard Valley Medical Center.
Jerry was born Oct. 12, 1935, in Carey, to Larry and Edna (Hart) Coldiron and attended school in Carey. While in school, Jerry and his brother, Jack, enlisted in U.S. Army on the same day. During Jerry's time enlisted, he served in The US Infinity.
After an honorable discharge, Jerry returned home to Carey and reconnected with Betty Lou Dyer. The two wed July 26, 1958, in Carey. Jerry accepted Betty's children as his own, blending their families. Betty preceded Jerry in death Feb. 10, 2002.
Jerry owned and operated Jerry's Refrigeration in Carey and was a jack of all trades. He was able to fix just about anything and was the first person his family called if something broke. Jerry was truly a family man, never missing an opportunity to spend time with his children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren. Even though Jerry had a rough exterior, he had a huge heart and a jokester personality. He spent countless hours playing cards with his family and visiting the slot machines at The AMVET's in Upper Sandusky. In younger years, Jerry enjoyed playing sports and could often be found fishing with friends or tinkering on cars.
Jerry will be missed by his children, Emogene Kidwell, Roger Perkins, Josephine Wilson, Ronnie Perkins, Christine (Terry) Holmes, and Terry Lee Coldiron; grandchildren, Stephanie (Bruce) Adams, Chad (Jennifer) Kidwell, Shannon (Greg) Phillips, Kip Hale, Jason (Angela) Hale, Kyle Perkins, and Terra (Curtis) Bauer; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Jerry was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Randall Coldiron; son-in-law, James Kidwell; daughter-in-law, Landa (Mundy) Coldiron; grandchildren, Teresa Wilson, Kevin Perkins, and Lana Mundy; and siblings, Dave, Jack, Glenn, Edith, Alice, Jim, and Catherine.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 West Findlay St., Carey. Jerry's funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
