Steven Kennedy Obituary

Steven Francis Kennedy

Steven Francis Kennedy, 71, of Findlay, passed away on the evening of May 27th at Blanchard Valley Hospital. He had fought a courageous battle against cancer for the last 9 years.

He was born March 5th, 1952 in Massillon, Ohio to John and Rosemary (Rieger) Kennedy. Steve graduated from Findlay High in 1970 and from the University of Toledo in 1975. He married Debra Lynn Elzay on October 22, 1977, and she survives. Steve is survived by three sons: John Paul Kennedy, of Chicago; David Alan Kennedy, of Columbus; and Timothy Douglas Kennedy, of Honolulu. Steve is also survived by his brother, Patrick Aloysius Kennedy of West Palm Beach, and his sister, Catherine Ann Kennedy of Fort Collins. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Avery Lyle, Vivian Kennedy, Charles Kennedy, and Josephine Kennedy.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rosemary Kennedy, as well as his younger sister, Susan (Kennedy) Stout.

Steve developed an attitude of self-reliance at an early age by delivering newspapers, mowing lawns, and caddying at a golf course, which helped nurture his lifelong interest in golf. After college, Steve was hired into the insurance claims industry and worked in the field for 45 years before retiring.

Steve was very active in athletics as a youth, ultimately leading to a football scholarship at the University of Toledo, during which time the team celebrated three consecutive undefeated seasons. Steve was a loving husband and father who prioritized time at home with his family. He was an avid gardener, practicing Catholic, St. Michael's choir member, Cleveland sports fan; and doting husband, father, and grandfather. He appreciated new experiences and welcomed relocation moves within his career to southern Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia; before returning to Findlay in 1995.

Steve will forever be remembered as enjoying the company of others, and developed lifelong friendships from all stages of his life that continued until the very end.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, June 7th at 10am at the downtown St Michael's church, 617 W Main Cross St, Findlay, OH 45840. A small reception for family and friends will follow the mass at the Knights of Columbus Hall across the street.

my condolences to Steve´s family. Steve and I were friends at Shady Hollow country club where he carried and my father was the manager. Steve and I played golf and had a lot of fun goofing off at the pool. He would often stop by my house to say hello on his way home. I was looking for Steve to try to find him and talk about the good all days that shady in my quest to reconnect with all those old friends before I leave the earth! Im deeply saddened. I just found out today About Steve and a mutual friend Rick Ress, who died 10 years and caddied as well!

My deepest condolences to his wife and family. Everyone ( especially the girls) loved Steve. He always had the best smile. I'm sad I missed the St. Mary's get together in the fall. Rest in piece.

Steve was the "kid" in the neighborhood. The best at everything. I will always remember him because my Mom would constantly tell me be more the Steve Kennedy. There were stories she did not know. Se you Steve.

How do you sum up a friendship of 53 years in a few sentences? It cannot be done. Steve was the most loyal friend one can hope for. He was thoughtful, adventurous and always a gentleman. We will never forget him and will keep his memory alive always as we share the best stories from our friendship that began in college.
