Robert Lee Halliday
Robert Lee "Bob" Halliday, 91, of
Ft. Worth, Texas, passed away Friday, May 19, 2023, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 13, 1931, in
Alton, Illinois, the son of Morris J. and Mary Ann Halliday. He married the love of his life, Joan Erline Wessel, on Sept. 11, 1954, and treasured their 68 years together before her death March 20, 2023.
Bob graduated from Marquette High School in
Alton, Illinois, in 1949 and then attended St. Benedict's College in
Atchison, Kansas, for two years. In 1952, Bob passed the military deferment test, but felt the duty to serve his country and joined U.S. Army, trained at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas, and was then deployed to fight in the Korean War. When he returned to the states, he finished his college education at University of Kansas, graduating in 1955 with a Bachelors Degree in Geology.
For his entire life, Bob lived the Catholic faith, always placing his children in parochial schools and doing everything to help the many churches and parishes that the family attended. As a child, Bob was an avid sportsman, hunting and fishing whenever he could and later took up the game of golf that he played "as an activity you can do your entire life." With his career, Bob moved his family numerous times over the country making friends and memories all along the way as his worked in the mining, cement, and lime industry and worked his way up from manager positions to the executive suite, using his intellect and experience, but primarily his respectful and persuasive way with people.
Bob is survived by five children, Robert M. "Doc" Halliday and wife, Rene' of
Tompkinsville, Kentucky, Judith Ann and husband Owen Seamands of
Jacksonville, Texas, Martin Lee Halliday and wife Molly of
Franklin, Tennessee, Jean E. and husband, Greg Dambold of
Ft. Worth, Texas, and Matthew G. Halliday and wife Diana of
Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania; 11 grandchildren, Lauren (Nick) Carter, Lacey (Brandon) Murley, Bo (Jordan) Seamands, Matt Seamands, Emma Clare Halliday, Ben (Bethany) Dambold, Hayley Dambold, Jessica (Scott) Marsh, Kirsten (Matthew) Holderman, and Nicholas (Jordan) Halliday; 11 great-grandchildren, Clayton Carter, Amelia Murley, Cash Seamands, Benjamin Ray Dambold, Adele Holderman, Maxwell Stone, and Andrew, Nora, Nolan, Nathaniel, and Nelson Marsh; brother-in-law, Gregory Wessel, of
Las Cruces, New Mexico; and nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Morris William Halliday.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in
Keller, Texas, with a rosary said before the service. Family will receive friends and guests prior to the service.
