Rebecca Mahan Obituary

Rebecca Loretta Mahan

Rebecca Loretta (Conley) Mahan passed away peacefully into the arms of God, surrounded by her family, Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 8:19 a.m. She was born September 26, 1943, a frosty Fall morning in Paintsville, Kentucky, to Lonzie P. Conley and Okie (Click) Conley. As a child on Swamp Branch in Kentucky, she loved to play in the creek, make mud pies, play with the neighbor children and put on a cheerleading show for her Grandpa "Beardy". She attended a country school in Leander, Kentucky. She graduated from Oil Springs High School in 1961 as one of the top 10 in her class.

She married William M. Mahan September 16, 1961, in Collista, Kentucky. She moved with him to Ohio to start their family. To this union was born two daughters, Stephanie (Rick) Hill and Stacy Mahan, both of Carey.

Rebecca was a creative soul. She did not like to sit with idle hands. Her many interests included daily Bible study, watching Jeopardy every night, writing, poetry, journaling random thoughts and observations, hand quilting, embroidery and crossword puzzles. Her most favorite thing was family get-togethers.

Rebecca became a born-again Christian in 1957. She served her Lord faithfully all of her life until the end. She served her church as a pastor's wife, a member of the church choir and love to serve the green beans at church dinners. This was her favorite job!

She served her community by volunteering at Carey Food Pantry. She loved the friendship that she made there. She also loved to help people. Rebecca was known to send letters and cards to people who crossed your mind. She wanted to be an encouragement to others.

Along with her husband and two daughters, she is survived by two grandchildren, Kathleen Hill of Findlay and John Hill of Carey; one great-grandchild, Austin Mellinger of Fostoria.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lonzie E. Conley.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Stombaugh Batton & Snyder Funeral Home in Carey. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2025, at Carey First Freewill Baptist Church, with Brent Layne and Sid Ramey officiating.
