Ramona Ann Spears

Ramona Ann Spears, known to all as "Annie," passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

She will forever be remembered by her family and many friends.

Annie was born May 23, 1931, in Portsmouth. She lived a life filled with purpose and love. After graduating high school, Annie married Wendell E. "Jock" Spears of New Boston, Ohio, in 1949. Their 57-year marriage served as the cornerstone of both their lives and their existences.

The two had a full and successful life, living in many communities across the Midwest, including Louisville, Kentucky, Chicago, Illinois, and Findlay.

They eventually moved to Florida during late 1980s, where Jock developed a successful commercial real estate company. Annie spent her time nurturing their family and took special joy in her five grandchildren. She was an avid tennis player and loved to dance.

Philanthropy was a major element of Annie and Jock's lives. They anonymously made generous contributions to education in Appalachia, food resources in Florida, and other charities that provided life-giving services to the poor, the elderly, and the unfortunate. Annie also served as a community volunteer for a variety of organizations.

She is survived by her son, Patrick; daughter-in-law, Lucy; and five grandchildren, Tracy Robinson and her husband Brian of Winter Park, Florida, April Spears and Crystal Spears of Boynton Beach, Florida, Michael Spears and his fiancé Kingsleigh Kramer of Fort Worth, Texas, and Andrew Spears and his wife Carrie Poppy of Los Angeles, California.

Annie was preceded in death by her husband, Jock; and eldest son, Michael.

Annie's service for family and friends will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at St. Richards Episcopal Church in Winter Park, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to United Way or Salvation Army.
