Paul Biery Obituary

Rev. Dr. Paul Leland Biery and Joan Irene Biery (Alworth)

It is with profound sorrow and love that we announce the passing of the Rev. Dr. Paul Leland Biery and Joan Irene Biery (Alworth), who left this world just months apart, marking the end of a remarkable journey together. Paul Leland Biery, born August 2, 1937, and passed away Monday, September 23, 2024, was a lifelong servant of God, educator, and mentor. Paul's ministry began at an early age, receiving his preaching license at just 15 years old. His devotion to the church and faith-based service was unwavering throughout his life. Paul pursued higher education across multiple institutions, including Ventura College (California), Mount Union College (Alliance, OH), Oberlin College, Vanderbilt University, and St. Mary Seminary, where he further developed his understanding of theology and ministry.

Paul's commitment to education did not end with his studies; he became a passionate educator and mentor, serving as an adjunct professor at Ashland College, Winebrenner Theological Seminary, and Cuyahoga Community College. His work touched the lives of many students, instilling in them the values of faith, service, and lifelong learning. For over 60 years, Paul and Joan ministered together in many churches, spreading love, faith, and hope to countless individuals.

Their shared calling as partners in ministry strengthened the faith communities they served, leaving a lasting legacy of compassion and service. Beyond their spiritual work, Paul and Joan shared an unwavering passion for equality, humanitarian efforts, and justice. Throughout their lives together, they dedicated themselves to advocating for those in need, working toward a world where all individuals were treated with dignity and respect. Their efforts to promote fairness and equality were seen in every aspect of their ministry, education, and charitable endeavors.

Joan Irene Biery (Alworth), born December 5, 1937, and passed away Friday, November 29, 2024, was a loving wife, devoted mother, and grandmother. Joan graduated with a teaching degree from Mount Union College and spent much of her life as an educator to those she met.

She taught High School English and Spanish in the Alliance area and Virginia, inspiring countless students with her passion for language and literature. Joan's life was marked by grace, kindness, and an unyielding devotion to her family. She was deeply involved in various charitable and community endeavors, always offering a listening ear, a helping hand, and a loving heart. Joan's love for the arts, education, and her community was evident in everything she did, and she was a constant source of encouragement to those around her.

Together, Paul and Joan built a life centered on love, faith, and service. They were an inseparable couple who shared not only their commitment to family but also their dedication to the spiritual and educational enrichment of their community. Their partnership in ministry was a testament to their shared vision and passion for helping others, and their legacy is one of selflessness, compassion, and unwavering love.

Paul and Joan are survived by their children, Ray Biery, Michelle (Scott) McCormick, and Anne (Filey) Mazon; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; along with many extended family members and friends, all of whom will cherish their memory and continue to be inspired by the lives they led.

As per their wishes, there were no services.
