Patricia Ann "Pat" Shanfelt
Patricia Ann "Pat" Shanfelt, 91, of Findlay, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024.
She was born April 13, 1933, in Rawson, the only daughter of Paul and Blanche (Smith) Latham. She had two brothers, Tom (Joyce) Latham, who now resides in Rawson, and Don (Margaret) Latham, who preceded her in death.
Pat graduated from Cory-Rawson High School in 1951 and in 1955, graduated with her bachelor's of science in education from Bowling Green State University. Pat devoted her entire 30-year career to teaching Home Economics at Gibsonburg High School. She taught many of her student's children and grandchildren. She loved to teach the under-privileged and see them succeed. She retired in 1985.
Pat married Charles Shanfelt on June 22, 1963, at Zion Lutheran Church in Gibsonburg. They established their home in Gibsonburg and lived there until 2018. In 2018, they built a new condo home in the Birchaven area of Findlay, where Pat enjoyed the rest of her retirement years, but always missed her Gibsonburg friends.
Pat was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she previously had the office of President of Zion Women. She was a former Sunday School teacher. She was also a past member of Gibsonburg Women Federation, Friends of the Library, member of the Sorosis Club, a Delta Kappa Gamma member, and member of Sandusky County Retired Teachers.
In her leisure time, Pat enjoyed working on the lawn and tending to her flowers, antiques, reading, and walking. Her favorite past times were the times shared traveling, going on cruises, and the vacations spent on the beach in Florida.
In addition to her husband, Charlie, and brother, Tom (Joyce), left to cherish her memory is her sister-in-law, Margaret Latham; nieces, Kristin (Jim) Lehman and Melissa (Mark) Newton; nephews, Kevin (Carol) Latham and John (Cindy) Latham; great-nieces and great-nephews, Emily Newton, Jessica Arthur, Diedra Latham, Tyler Latham, Levi Latham, Joshua Lehman, Jason Lehman, Gabrial Latham, and Zachary Latham; and many great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces.
Pat's funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Gibsonburg, with burial to follow at West Union Cemetery in Gibsonburg.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
