Oscar Olson Obituary

Dr. Oscar C. Olson

With utmost sadness, we share the passing of Dr. Oscar C. Olson, who left us Friday, December 27, 2024, at Blanchard Valley Hospital. While our hearts ache, our faith brings comfort in knowing that he is now in the loving embrace of our Lord and Savior. A devoted husband, father, and cherished friend to many, Oscar's legacy is one of love and kindness.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Carol, and his eldest daughter, Kristin (Dann, sons, William and James). His youngest daughter, Helga, whom he joyfully delivered also carries on his memory.

Born May 16, 1943, in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, Canada, Oscar was the son of Harold and Helga (Bjarnason), who preceded him in death. He leaves behind his sister, Irene (Claude) Brooks; his brother, Harvey (Mhairi), both of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and brother-in-law, Ryan (Jan) Diduck of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Oscar dedicated over 45 years to his calling as a family practice physician. His career began in Winnipeg, Manitoba, before he answered the call to serve in Findlay in 1996. As a physician in North Baltimore and medical director for several area nursing homes, Oscar cared for his patients with unwavering respect, compassion, and dignity.

A man of many passions, Oscar had a deep love for ice skating, competing nationally as a pair skater. While his medical career became his priority, he found joy in curling, skiing, and later sharing the thrill of skating with his daughters, inspiring them to follow in his footsteps. Oscar and Carol cherished their time together, especially during vacations to Hawaii, a place they held close to their hearts. At home, Oscar found peace in the simple pleasures: a good mystery novel with the warmth of a loyal dog on his lap, his beloved Frenchie, Luna.

Oscar's life was a testament to his unwavering faith in Christ, his deep love for his family, and his compassionate care for others. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.

"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." - Psalm 23:6

A service to honor and celebrate Oscar's extraordinary life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in his memory. Arrangements are being handled by COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay, Ohio.

So very sorry to hear of Dr. Olson's passing. He was a wonderful man who so loved his wife and daughters. I watched Jesus shine through him every day. In his kindness, generosity, compassion and love for people. I can't think of anyone I've ever respected more. He will surely be missed and we were all truly blessed to know him.

I had not met him prior to that day, but I will never forget Dr. Olson´s tears and compassionate presence in the room at Briar Hill as my father was leaving us. What a kind, genuine man he was. My deepest sympathy to his family as they mourn his passing.
