Michael Jeffery Obituary

Michael "Moose" Jeffery

Retired Captain

Michael (Moose)

Jeffery

January 25, 1942 -

May 17, 2025

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Michael Jeffery, a retired Findlay fireman. He was a true hero in the lives of his family and all who knew him. He gained his wings Saturday, May 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of strength, love, and unwavering devotion.

Michael was born January 25, 1942, in Findlay, to Merlin and Irene Jeffery. He was the first of four children. Michael is survived by his wife Janet, of 36 years; and two sisters, Ann (Dennis) Elsea and Jane (Stanley) Stough; and sister-in-law, Deborah Jeffery. He was a devoted stepfather of John (Tess) Phillians, Tammy Phillians, and Julie (Brice) Phillians Berry; a loving grandfather to Crystal Huston and Kristopher Phillians; two great-grandchildren, Tucker and Tatem Huston.

He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, James (Roundman) Jeffery.

Among his many cherished relationships was a special bond with Jim Stone, to whom he was a respected mentor and a dear friend. He graduated from Findlay High School in 1959. Moose joined the Findlay Fire Department in 1967 and served as a firefighter and mechanic for 37 years, retiring as a Captain in 1992. He then went on to become a full-time mechanic for FFD for seven additional years. Michael continued his mechanical career with JDR Excavating until he retired full-time. Moose was a member of UCOA in Findlay, and an avid hunter. He enjoyed skeet shooting with his friends. He was a man who truly made a difference in the lives of those around him.

Celebration of Moose's life will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in Findlay. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2025. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery.
